Description

The Tree

Douglas Firs (Pseudotsuga Menziesii) are tall, slender conifers native to the American West and cultivated worldwide. These adaptable pioneer trees take root in a variety of biomes. They serve as the backbone of ecosystems and logging industries alike.

The diversity of Dougs allows them to resemble a variety of other tree species, resulting in several confusing names. Indeed, Douglas Firs aren't true firs, but rather a unique member of the pine family.

Introduction

This is a pack of 15 low poly tree assets including 7 individual trees and 8 forest clusters. You can use them on their own or in addition to the rest of the Douglas Fir family. They use the same textures as the more detailed Douglas Firs that I made, but I used a number of tricks to reduce their tri count by about 75%. They should blend in well with their siblings and can be used to fill out thick woods.

Using the forest clusters can also dramatically reduce the tree count and help you stay under the limit. As a bonus, clusters perform better than placing the trees individually (due to non-intuitive rendering reasons). The clusters have a little bit of hill tolerance, but on steep slopes you'll still want to use individual trees to avoid flying trunks.

Technical

- All 15 assets in the pack share two 1k x 2k texture sets. The Loading Screen Mod should eliminate the vast majority of functional RAM requirement for this pack. These textures are shared with the other Douglas Firs I've made.

- Tri counts are very low for their size; under 400 for each individual tree and under 2000 for each cluster.

- I did NOT alter tree sway on these assets. Based on my experience with the previous packs, I now recommend using the Tree Movement Control mod to reduce sway, which can eliminate sway on LODs as well, and doubles for random tree rotation.

- Tree LOD Fix is critical as always.

What I absolutely love most are the varying heights as well as the option between a single tree or a cluster. I've been going mad decorating my hills and mountains with these things and they look fantastic.
