Description
GSI, Inc. is proud to present the next great innovation in all-weather engineering: the lightning rod. Sporting a top-of-the-line conduction finial from Megavolt Manufacturing and a 100% corporeal mounting pedestal made possible by consultants from Kiwi Design, this beauty's got it where it counts. It doesn't just look good, though; researchers in our state-of-the-art laboratories discovered a mysterious property of lightning which causes it to strike metallic entities in its vicinity. Armed with this knowledge, R&D got to work and came up with the concept you see before you: a high-tech lightning interception device. This device will attract incoming lightning, diverting it from damaging vital components within ships and stations and thus saving lives. Truly, engineers—and their families—can rest easier now, knowing GSI technology is always standing between them and the dangers of the galaxy.

[Disclaimer, this device has been known to interfere with the target selection algorithms of automated defense units. Be advised that, should one such unit open fire upon your vehicle or structure, it will likely attempt to destroy any lightning rod it can detect. Use at your own risk.

@SixtyIV uh oh, sorry about that. I'll see what I can do to get to the bottom of the issue, but it might be hard to make much progress for a bit; I no longer have access to a Windows computer, so I have been unable to play SE for several months. Planning to buy a new one soon, though.

With each hit of lightning blasts a charge into batteries so you can build up power in storage maybe

In this case, you should go to one of the modding forums, perhaps they can help you refine your mod.
Unfortunately, I don't have any examples of such groups. (but I know there are some).

@Zen, unfortunately, life and career got in the way before I could really finish this, but the plan was to add built-in scripting that would intercept lightning damage and nullify it (or nearly nullify it). I've never was able to figure out how to do the damage interception, though.

and when damaged, requires much more material than the same bait. What is the point of such a device?

Interesting, but the durability is too short. Repairs are expensive.
