Lackawanna Cutoff

Description
The Lackawanna Cutoff was built in 1911 by the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad to replace their Old Road with a high speed route with very few turns or gradients to allow for 80mph operating speed as well as shave 11 miles off the route. To achieve this, the right of way was built on a series of cuts and fills. The cut-off left the old road (currently serviced by NJT to Hackettstown) just west of Lake Hopatcong, NJ at Port Morris Junction and rejoined it again at Slateford Junction on the west side of the Delaware River near the Delaware Water Gap.

This route is not meant to portray any one particular era but rather a mix to be able to provide a variety of operating potentials. The Cut-Off itself is a double, superelevated track as it was before it was torn up by Con-Rail in the 80's. Stations and sidings along the cut-off are historically accurate and are the result of referencing countless charts, maps, and pictures. The grades are accurate to real life, sourced from maintenance charts used by Con-Rail. Many thanks to Minerman146, the creator of the Bergen/Port Jervis Line, for supplying those to me. Also included is a station at Andover as NJT plans to extend service there. The Lackawanna Railroad never served Andover from the cut off. All things east of Lake Hopatcong are modern day as this is still in operation from New Jersey Transit Morris & Essex Line. Port Morris Yard is how it is in its modern form. This will be changed so it matches as it was around the 40’s but finding a good map or clear picture of the yard at this time period is blocking this. If anyone has vintage pictures of Port Morris Yard, let me know! They are likely to be of great use.

Also included is the Morristown & Erie Shortline from Morristown, NJ to Whippany NJ. The M&E is a short line that services the industries along this branch line as well as others that branch off from NJT's Morris & Essex Line. Note, eventually this branch line will be completed past Whippany but it is not my first priority as I used this branch line as "training wheels'' for this project.

This route is a Work in Progress. Track is laid by me is between Dover, NJ to Greendell at milepost 58. Additionally, about half of the Morristown & Erie Whippany Branch is also included with most of that scenery included. The route is an extension Westward from Dover on the NJ Transit Morristown line which can be found in the Steam Store. The goal is to eventually have the route go all the way to Stroudsburg, PA.

In its current form this route includes:

Track west of Dover to Greendell.
-Two Track, non-electrified mainline
-Historically accurate sidings
-Lake Junction and Lake Yard
-Mount Arlington Station
-Lake Hopatcong Station
-Port Morris Yard
-Super-elevation starts West of West Port Morris Siding.
-Andover Station
-Pequest Fill
-Greendell Station
-Johnsonburg Station
-Eastbound and Westbound Quick Drives
-Scenery completed in almost all places.

Morristown & Erie's Whippany Branch to Whippany NJ.

-Reworked Morristown & Erie yard in Morristown, NJ
-single track branch line to Whippany Railroad Museum
-Sidings in all accurate places as well as sidings where they have been historically
-Scenery completed in most places but not yet in place in some spots.
-Quick Drives between Morristown Yard and Whippany Railroad Museum.

You Require the Follwing DLC:

-North Jersey Coast Line and Morristown Line Extension
-New York- New Haven Line
-Hudson Line

Hope you enjoy the route so far and will stick around for the rest of the project! If you encounter any issues or bugs with the route, let me know! I'll fix them but I can't if I don't know about them. Enjoy your drive!

I built out the route as far as the hainesburg viaduct but never uploaded it due to file issues. I might at some point. I've decided to head in another direction by creating the entire mainline starting from Hoboken over the Boonton Line. Eventually that will go over the cut off, that route can be found on my workshop. So far, I've made it to boonton and will upload that portion in a month or so. Thanks for checking in!

Sooo... It's been over a year now. Is this going to be updated ever again?

Two thing I've notices is that it seems the train will route you into Port Morris Yard, rather than onto the Cut-Off, when travelling in Quick Drive mode, and that NJT's Dual Mode locomotives do not allow you to do quick drives to stations past Dover from Penn Station.

Trying to do this same project in Trainz 2019, would like to hear about how you built this

I have not put any thought towards that idea but I'll certainly starting thinking about it. Right now I have track laid as far as Greendell (MP 58). Given that my goal is to get to Stroudsburg (MP 85) and the rate of progress so far I havent seen a point to doing that. If I decided to extend another 50 miles to Scranton I will most certainly publish before doing that.

Hi Bamaji. Now Maria Pass is not a requirement (thanks for listening), do you have a milestone in mind where you might stop, and say this is it for the time being, and see if you can get 30 thumbs up ratings to make it final, so we can create on it?

Took it out as a required DLC in the last update. Put that in the title so people outside of US who might've clicked on it earlier only to find they couldn't play it because of that DLC could be made aware of the change. title will go back to normal in a bit.
