Theme / Background (for those interested):

Set in the modern day, preservationists have successfully reopened the Heathfield branch as a local tourist attraction after several years of disuse. Being set in an early-year state, no large infrastructure has been built, solely relying on a handful of additional sidings at Newton Abbot and existing trackwork at Heathfield to stable rolling stock.

The line commonly sees use with hired-in steam and diesel locomotives, hauling leased coaches, operating services between Newton Abbot (platforms 5 & 6) and Heathfield, calling at Teigngrace Halt en route.

Services can be operated to a 30 minute timetable; 20 minutes travelling time plus 10 minutes turnaround time.

Push-Pull services and DMUs are best suited, although locomotive-hauled trains can be used too, where arriving trains alternate between platforms 5 & 6 at Newton Abbot to exchange locomotives with the previous service, then continuing up the line to use the runaround at Heathfield.

In addition, railtours are possible as the mainline connection at Newton Abbot has been left intact, enabling full runs to Heathfield from Exeter and Paignton. The long runaround loop at Heathfield enables railtours of up to 10 coaches.

This route is primarily intended as a sandbox style route, to be played mostly in free-roam mode.

Thanks hamtgerry. It does suit little tank engines well, especially when you get the chance to thrash them up the hill!

Stumbled on this route this morning. Just finished giving it a QuickDrive with a (SSS) Terrier-pulled passenger train. Very impressive! It's now one of my favorite routes. The path I choice was mostly uphill, which proved a bit challenging for the Terrier at times. But it handled the run surprisingly well. I never feared it slowing to a stop (or even a crawl). Wish I'd 'filmed' the run. It would have made a pleasing YouTube video, I think.
