//Requirements//
Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the bsp. The map file itself should be "rp_bmsectorc_v2", minus the quotation marks.

//Gameplay//
  • Areas from both Half-Life 1 and Half-Life: Decay but using the style that Valve presented in Half-Life 2: Episode 2
  • Spawn Room Features (In singleplayer, several point_messages appear here to help show what everything is)
    ** Headcrab/Zombie spawner
    ** Barnacle spawner
    ** Hostile Vortigaunt spawner
    ** An ambient AI spawner. These AI will spawn in areas outside the play space and move around to help give the facility some more life.
    ** 3 different choices of where to enter the map from
    ** A button that makes the facility seem damaged; including sparks, smoke, and static on tvs across the sector
  • In-Map Features
    **Enterable vents in a few areas. Some are ground level, others are up high
    **A variety of blank labs/working rooms for players to customize and work in
    ***Breakable windows and movable shutters in several of them
    **Meeting room with breakable windows and moveable shutter
    **Six working elevators; including one in the Anti-Mass spectrometer
    **Facility wide alarm that can be activated from many points across the sector
    **Working anti-mass spectrometer.
    **Customizable break-room, with openable fridge and small closet
    **Locker room with 16 walk-in lockers
    **Working tram
    **Bathroom with flushing toilets
    **Several security desks and dedicated security rooms, ready to be customized
    **Several keyboards throughout the map will play sounds when you interact with them

NEWLY ADDED FEATURES AS OF MAY 17, 2021
  • New area originally from Half-Life: Opposing Force also done in the style that presented in Half-Life 2: Episode 2
  • Crystal handler, which can be found in a lower area below the Anti-Mass Spectrometer
  • Loads of new signage to help navigate the space better and to make it feel more like Black Mesa
  • Mirror in bathroom with real-time reflections

//Development//
Originally this map was for a much larger project that I had in mind a long time ago. That project has since lost the requirement of this map. And I began working on other things that gave me a lot more experience with the Source engine. But I really liked the basic idea of the map, so I kept returning to it, making changes here and there, using new things I had learned.

The basic idea that I mentioned was, what if we take the lobby briefly seen in Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and try to remake the rest of Sector C like that? This then morphed into a fascination with how the Half-Life 1 portions of Sector C interacted with the Half-Life Decay portions

I also really enjoy trying to make maps with more scripting in them. It helps enhance the quality of the map and you guys enjoy it a lot. So, I made sure to include as much scripting in this map as I could. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to get the monorail to work.

The other major focus for me was optimization. My first Gmod map was extremely unoptimized leading to many frame issues. I managed to remedy this to a degree in my second map through fewer brushes. This map I believe I did it better, through better brush shaping, better area portaling and enclosed spaces.

Finally, this was also an experiment to see if I could get custom textures and models in the game, and pak them into a BSP. In testing it appears to have worked.

AS OF MAY 17, 2021
After quite some time of the map being up and several issues being pointed out, I decided to return to Black Mesa. However, I didn't want to just bug fix, I also wanted to expand a little and take some suggestions to improve the map. Thanks to more practice in the intervening time I felt confident in making the map better. With all that, the map was updated, reworked, and repacked to hopefully make the map look and play better than before.

//Closing//
I hope those of you who download this map have fun, and experience something new in the Black Mesa genre of RPs. It's been an interesting experience building this. And if people like it (and it functions properly), I hope to be able to add a lot more custom content to maps.
