Phantom Facility - Storage Sector

Description
This is my very first Hammer created map.

I understand that the map is short and probably pretty simple, but this is my first attempt at making a Hammer map and I am pleased with how it turned out. Let me know if you think I should continue to use Hammer.

If anyone has any tips or just overall ideas that would help further my Hammer knowledge, leave a comment!

I liked this map. Please make more. However, the lighting is too dark in some areas, players don't have any way to create artificial light.

Thirdly; Don't give up on improving your map. These comments are not negative. I really enjoyed the map. Add another room or two, some more elements (how about a light bridge in your goo room?.. work it into a jumping/placing puzzle?). Maybe some foiliage and some decals (~as mentioned in the first post!)... this could be great....

Secondly; Lighting. The map is way too dark. I can see what you were attempting but the box/button room was too dark for me to even see the barricade!... Try looking into using lighting "instances". The 'warm panel lights' and 'bts blue framed lights' would really fit your map.

I like your thinking with this. I would say to keep using Hammer. It is much better then PeTI IMO. You have some room for improvement with this map. Here's a few pointers;

Firstly; mis-aligned textures. You have several areas where the textures "cut-off" mid way through. Really noticeable at the entrance/exit to the goo room. Most textures are designed to be used in "128unit squares" at texture scale 0.25. Try this and try resizing your rooms to be in multiples of "128unit blocks".

I play in window mode. Way to dark. I have no idea where to move. I move on. :-/

It's too dark. I had to use the command "mat fullbright 1" just to get an idea where to go. Also this is something I would expect a Portal 1 mapper to make. We have Portal 2 so, get creative with the elements in the game.

Try out my map maybe? I don't think you will regret it.

I always love these maps with broken test chambers, or even just being completely outside of a test chamber. It really makes you think outside of the box. I think if you made something like this that was quite a bit longer it could get into the first few pages of the top rated maps.

This is actually pretty good for a first Hammer map. I've tried using Hammer in the past, and I just don't freaking understand it.
And yes, you should make more Hammer maps. Hammer maps are always the best.
