>>>PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION<<<

Specification:

Mass: 1.6 million KG

Length: 52m
Acceleration: 0-100m/s in 16 seconds.

Features:

100% Vanilla & Survival ready

External cockpit for quick access
8 passenger seats ( 2 for pilot & co-pilot with remote control block for piloting from inside the ship)
Air-lock
Boarding ramp
3 landing struts

Description:

A year or so ago I came across a really cool spaceship design ( lots actually, but anyway )
while looking at photos of Lego creations, and I got the idea to build it in Space Engineers but never
got around to it. Recently, Purrfect-Blinky released various StarWars creations including a couple
versions of the Millenium Falcon, and I got the itch to take on my own StarWars inspired build finally.
Using Blinkys ship as a guide for size, shape and detailing I put together a replica of
the YT-1450 Light Freighter 'The Nadir' that was first designed and built in Lego by Oscar Cederwall ( o0ger ) as an entry into a contest. I had to make a few tweaks to the design due to the limitations of what shapes you can create in Space Engineers, but over all I think I stayed pretty faithful to the original.

Lore:

"The YT-1450 model was conceived mainly for hauling large cargo crates by connecting them
to the hull between the two forward mandibles. This was a feature not frequently used on earlier
models, such as the YT-1300, but there still existed a market demand for these types of ships.
The YT-1450 standard model comes equipped with a forward pointing tractor beam projector,
placed between the large mandibles. Somewhat unique for this YT model is the side mounted
rotating cockpit that gives the pilot a great overview of the ship and the cargo during flight.

"The Nadir" is, as many other YT class ships, greatly modified. In particular for getting large
cargo shipments out of tough situations. An oversized shield generator has been fitted to one of the
mandibles. This gives The Nadir the possibility to shield both the ship and the cargo. To be able to
blast through blockades, a double turbo laser battery has replaced one of the docking ports.
Almost all of the long-range sensors and communication equipment have been upgraded and
switched out during the years."

Summary:

The Nadir is similar in size to the Falcon, but has significantly larger mandibles allowing for greater cargo capacity and more comfortable crew quarters, along with heavier calibre weaponry and improved systems.

Since this is a Vanilla build there is no Shield Generator or Tractor beam, no JumpDrive since it is a small-grid ship, and the Cockpit doesn't rotate because that's just asking for Clang to attack. There are however deployable landing strutts and a boarding ramp that lowers ( I have simplifed the design so it is more stable and can be locked in place )- there is also a small 'airlock' above the ramp that you can fly through head-first. Due to far fewer moving parts the ship doesn't rattle and bang during flight ( pistons are very stable even when throwing the ship around ), and there are no super-grid items that invite Clang and cause performance issues. As such there is no gravity on the ship, and you need to use either the external cockpit or interior passenger seats & the Remote control block to pilot the vessel; I've done the best I can whilst remaing 100% Vanilla, so keep this in mind- you can always add mods to improve the ship and make it more fun ( Shield mods, better weapons, small grid JumpDrive and Control seats, Cryo beds, decorations etc etc ).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the ship- if you do, please remember to Like, Subscribe, Follow and all that good stuff- helps keep me motivated to build more stuff. Cheers.

I ended up just switching that world to survival and took it out to space. not entirely sure how switching the game mode would change anything, but whatever :)

@mjcaboose3- it should hover fine on a planet ( I tested it on an alien world with 1.1G just to be sure ), try tilting the nose up and using both forwards and upwards thrusters. Worked fine for me, though sim speed tanks when you fly it around a planet so keep that in mind, it's much happier being in space...

Am I the only one who cannot get it off the surface of Earth? It LOOKS cool, but I am seriously thinking about just disassembling it again. Is it possible to reduce/remove gravity from earth so as to get out to space even? I want very much to be able to fly it, but thus far I can't.

This hunk of junk. I bet it couldn't the Kessel Run in under 13 parsecs.
