SU-152

SU-152-heavy Soviet self-propelled artillery (ACS) during the great Patriotic war, built on the basis of a heavy tank KV-1C and armed with a powerful 152-mm howitzer gun ML-20S. On their combat mission SU-152 was heavy assault instrument; limited could fulfill functions self-propelled howitzers. The construction of the first prototype of the SU-152 called Object 236 (also KV-14 or SU-14) was completed at the Chelyabinsk Kirov plant (ChKZ) on January 24, 1943, from the next month began its serial production. In connection with the removal from production of the tank base KV-1C SU-152 in December 1943 were replaced in the production of equivalent weapons and better armored ISU-152, 670 was built self-propelled artillery of this type.

Su-152 made its combat debut in the summer of 1943 in the battle of Kursk, where it proved to be an effective fighter of new heavy German tanks and ACS. The most active SU-152 was used in the second half of 1943 and early 1944, and later their number in the army has steadily decreased as a result of combat losses or wear and tear of the chassis and the engine-transmission group. Replacement of the failed SU-152 in parts of the Soviet self-propelled artillery became more perfect ISU-152. A small number of cars fought until the end of the war and was in service of the Soviet army in the postwar years. After removal from service the remaining SU-152 were almost all disposed of metal and to date, only a few of this type of ACS survived.
