Description
Brand new heritage railway!

History of the preserved line

A stunning new take on the malmesbury branch from Just Trains. This heritage version of the 4 mile branch running between somerford and malmesbury first began when Great Somerford halt was purchased by the town as a railway museum in 1962. Skip forward 31 years to 1993 where the former site at Malmesbury station was sold to a preservation group to be revived as a heritage line. Here, a replica of the station, a 4 road engine shed and section of 800 yards began to operate. In 1997 permission was granted for the extension to the old somerford junction, including the restoration of malmesbury tunnel, opening in 2002, 3 years late due to an innitial lack of funding. In 2005 it was announced that the Malmesbury Heritage Society and Great Somerford museum of rail transport were combining to form the Malmesbury & Somerford Railway Preservation society. Which extended the line to a new halt and runaround loop located at the museum. The line was renamed the abbey line and the full 4 mile section was official opening in 2009, with plans to establish an extension to Dauntsey on the GWML. In 2015 little somerford west halt was opened, providing a bus service into the main town and a request stop of photographers alike. In 2017 a turntable was installed and the shed was extended. On January 1st 2018, a new runaround loop near little somerford halt was built allowing more than 1 train use the line at the same time for the first time.

As a former Great Somerford local resident I love this take on an area that I know well. I did make a very basic end to end scenario using a Terrier and a couple of small coaches that ran without any problems.
