Soundtrack Restoration - WotC + TLE

Description
Reuses soundtracks added with XCOM UFO Defense (TLE), XCOM Enemy Unknown, Shen's Gift, Alien Hunters, Lost and Abandoned missions in addition to few others from the base game that are rarely used. By default this mod makes all these soundtracks play randomly during gameplay (without the need to change soundtracks manually in game options). Configuration INI file is provided to allow for customization (example default config[gist.github.com])

Features

Combat Soundtracks (Customizable):
  • (New!) Music during combat now randomly plays themes from all soundtracks available in Tactical Legacy Expansion pack.
  • Soundtrack from Tutorial and Avenger Defense has been added to the random pool of combat music tracks.
  • All three soundtracks from Shen's Last Gift have been added to the random pool of combat music tracks.

Mission Soundtracks (Customizable):
  • Lost missions: Now use the soundtrack from Lost and Abandoned mission.
  • Abandoned city missions: Now use the soundtrack from Lost and Abandoned mission.
  • Retaliation missions: Now use the tense soundtrack from Tutorial and Avenger Defense missions.
  • Landed UFO missions: Now use the soundtrack from Alien Hunters mission.
  • Chosen fortress missions: Now use the soundtrack from the final alien fortress mission.
  • Other missions can be customized with INI file.

Avenger Soundtracks: (Now customizable!)
  • (New!) Music in the base and geoscape now randomly plays themes from all soundtracks available in Tactical Legacy Expansion pack.
  • Stage Two soundtrack in the strategic layer will trigger much earlier once Magnetic Weapons and Plated Armor technologies are researched.
  • Stage Three soundtrack in the strategic layer will trigger once the first Avatar is killed.

Soundtracks

Only one track that is missing is the original squad select track from the base game (from before WotC), which can no longer be played by (simply) modifiying scripts.

Customization

Commented INI file that can be customized is located at: "Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\1137361817\Config\XComSoundtrackRestoration.ini"

Compatibility
  • Compatible with existing saves and can be safely removed at any point.
  • Requires War of the Chosen expansion pack (with free TLE update) and will not work with the base game.
  • Overrides "XComTacticalSoundManager" and "XComStrategySoundManager" classes.

Bugs
If you encounter a mission without any soundtrack, it means that this mod is the most likely culprit. Let me know if this or any other bugs happen!

FAQ
Q: What's the point of soundtrack selection in game options now?
A: Soundtrack selected in game options will now only apply to main menu theme (which is not randomized). Soundtrack set in options is also used when entries in config file are missing or set to default values (without postfixes).

Q: Do I need Shen's Last Gift or Alien Hunters DLCs for this mod to work?
A: No. Soundtracks from DLCs are including within War of the Chosen expansion pack.

Q: Does this mod require Robojumper's Music Modding System or any other mods?
A: No. This is a standalone mod.

Q: Does this mod replace default soundtracks entirely?
A: No. This mod replaces soundtracks in roughly 1/3 of missions that you will encounter.

For some reason when launching this with AWL it makes the game incredibly laggy (at least on Gatecrasher). I loaded into an existing game if that makes any difference.

Didn't I make it clear that I understand this is a WOTC mod? I asked if there was a POSSIBILITY to adapt it for LW2 somehow. I think that was pretty clear. And the question was for those who understand how this could be done.

A question for the author - is there any way to install it for LW2 (not LWOTC)?

The great mystery that is LWOTC crippling of the music system. That mod team needs to push out a fix so its compatible with music mods again.

Or someone with a real high IQ need to figure out a fix, wink wink... :)

As others have stated, this mod does not work with LWOTC (Long War). Some missions have no ambient/exploration music at all. Others only seem to play the "Lost and Abandoned" theme and nothing else, regardless of the mission setting. Between these two issues, I've had to disable this mod. It worked great for me for vanilla WOTC.

Does it work with just the download with the workshop? Or do we have to do others things?
I installed it but i didn't answer any of those musics yet

It's a tragedy that there seems to be no simple way of replacing the WOTC squad loadout song with the original. Is it possible to simply make a copy of the original song, rename that file to whatever the WOTC song is called, and replacie the WOTC song with the renamed original? Does anyone know what folders the music files are stored in?

Seems that my issue was not using that AML which completely turns off vanilla X2 mods.
