Black River & Western Railroad

Description
The Black River and Western Railroad (reporting mark BRW) is a short-line railroad operating in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, between Flemington and Ringoes with plans to expand service back to Lambertville (the southernmost end of the railroad). The railroad operates vintage steam and diesel powered locomotives: it maintains a regular limited freight service extending to Three Bridges, but is operated primarily as a heritage railway.

Route Requirements: Donner Pass / North Jersey Coastline / New York - New Haven / Sherman Hill / Horseshoe Curve.

For the most realistic operations, please refer to the railroad rules PDF file in the route download file (Program files (x86) > Steam > Steamapps > Common > Railworks > Content > Routes > 4ecf.... ).

It was part of the old Challenger pack, when DTG did the update to it they didn't include the 2-8-0 in the re-release. Also interesting, didn't see any 2-8-0s in the article release. I'll have to look again.

On the 3rd image, what train is that? It looks suitable for the route. If not, there is a steam loco coming in the Bessemer/Lake Erie route that looks identical to BRW 60

Some of my favorite (modern era) would be using the S160 for 60, or for modern diesel power use SW1500s, GP9s/GP7s, or even GP38s/GP40s.
Although it is set for modern times, for PRR era, you'd want to stick to the PRR GP7 or Alco RS11s. K4s can also be used for Pre-WWII passenger service from Flemington to Lambertville.
However these are just my suggestions of what I like to use when running this route; really almost anything can work if you want (NS locals, NJT service, or even equipment from other preservation groups).

What are some good trains to run on this?

Hi Jay, glad you liked it. As for the negatives, I'll be sure to adjust the FR and the QDs to the AT&N, or I will do as I have done in the past and just use the DP SW1500s and the SW10s. As for foliage, that will go in due time. I wanted to get in main structures, grades, and key points of scenery in first (as much as I could without causing further delay). For the next update, I would really like to work on the scenery on the southern portion of the line past Ringoes, so that'll hopefully have tons of scenery next time around. Thank you for the feedback!

Thanks a lot, cvspad. You know I love this route & am grateful for what you've done & anything you do next. Finally got to install & spend time getting it driveable. Below are my only negatives, but thanks for keeping me occupied with the wonderful BR&W!
1. My biggest desire is an included Quick Drive session not reliant on USATC package.
As expected, I couldn't use the included QD because of missing USATC, couldn't modify that QD to remove it, so I started a new QD. But I wasn't able to place the player spawn marker; it didn't work anywhere on any track. And every time I placed a static train I wasn't able to add a driver without a destination error. My solution: new free-roam session & static AT&N Consolidation.
2. I’d love more foliage on the SE trackside. I remember a solid wall of trees during a lot of the IRL run, whereas my copy of the route/scenario is sparse. If this is by design rather than missing asset, I'll go in & do as much copy and pasting of other foliage as I can.
