The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is widely regarded as a classic, looked back on fondly and revered by many - praise that is, in my opinion, well-earned. It shows its age, inevitably, but the core gameplay, and iconic open world have a timeless element to them, not worn away in the 12 or more years since the game's release. If you've never tried Skyrim, or perhaps even never heard of it, I cannot recommend enough taking some time away from whatever the latest AAA release is, and just going in blind - that's the kind of experience you can only have once.
