Really solid indie horror title that still stands up to modern standards, even against this game's own sequels and prequels it stands out. The first installment in the "Five Nights at Freddy's" franchise is an experience that no true gamer should miss out on. As an introduction to the series, it excels by allowing you to experience the horror of the animatronics while not giving you many details behind what is truly driving and motivating these fearsome enemies to attacks.
While this game stands out for its personality, innovation to the horror genre, and tone of ambiance, it also comes with its fair share of negatives. The by far most egregious negative, and really the only truly notable one in a game priced at 5 dollars, is most definitely the difficulty.

I LOVE this game, however I can't deny the fact that it is simply too difficult. Only the most hardcore of gamers are going to make it far in this game. This is a game that you can tell was not properly balanced. Both Bonnie and Chica are extremely difficult to handle, and even now I'm still not 100% percent sure on how to deal with them. Foxy seems to be a completely random element with no consistency, and Freddy is literally never active. Seriously, I've never once seen him leave the stage. He is just there to kill you if you run out of power, which seems like a waste of character modeling. Although, the game is hard enough already so adding another factor could easily ruin the game. However, the worst part is: there is no tutorial or introduction. You are told nothing about anything and are expected to just ride right through the game. Unfortunately, this one major negative does exist but it doesn't change how good the game is.

All in all, this game, even with its extreme difficulty, truly shows how much a games artistic design and aesthetic matter. I would definitely recommend to anyone with an interest in horror games. It is slightly misleading though, considering how its called "Five nights" at Freddy's when I still can't even get past the first night. Almost starting to think there's only one night...
