when the draw of your mmo is incredible world-building and storytelling over the frequent and in-depth content updates exhibited by other mmos, you really should endeavor to make sure that the story maintains its incredible quality. yawntrail is plagued by the same puddle-deep, formulaic patch cycle that ff14 has been struggling with since at least endwalker but without the well-crafted story that made the slog somewhat bareable. when the most exciting part of an expansion is that maybe it might get better when they release the bozja-like zone (effectively recycling old content as opposed to innovating) at a nebulous, later point in time, its probably not a good sign

solid launch. even though a lot of the heroes are clones of overwatch 2 heroes, it has enough unique gameplay and abilities to keep it distinct. the art style, character models and skins are also really well made and i really like them.

game really needs balancing though, some characters are just blatantly stronger than others within the same role and most ults just 1-shot you without an opportunity to avoid or counter them. its not very fun or engaging when it happens. once this game gets its balance in order though this is probably gonna be one of the better team-based pvp games

also needs way more healers/tanks and maybe role queue

as much as love the crpg style combat from the first game and have been lamenting the fact thats its been progressivley moving away from that w/ each new game in the series, the combat in this game is crazy fun. i also appreciate that you feel strong immediately and dont have to play for several hours to get to the point of having a lot of fun

an incredible mmo with a great story and exceptional content structure, especially as it relates to world content. the combat system is probably one of the best in the genre, solid encounter design and the zones are beautifully crafted as well as being gorgeous. the non-world vs world pvp leaves a lot to be desired and the inventory system is incredibly frustrating at times, but overall this is a very good game. helps that the base game is free to play, meaning anyone can give it a shot

game is itself a lesson in humility. no matter how good you may think you are you can always be dragged back down into the mud by animals masquerading as men

great aesthetic and enjoyable story. theres also an achievement for beating up fascists

frankly everything i wished stellaris was. excellent art style and soundtrack, interesting mechanics that avoid being overly complicated and hard to get into and i very much enjoy that all the various playstyles are completely viable and have their own win conditions associated with them -- it isnt just a war simulator

single-player games are borderline unplayable now because the 1 or 2 ai empires vassalize the entire galaxy 50 years into the game

accidentally stumbled on this one, quite the hidden gem
