While not the best title put out by Wayforward, Bloodrayne Betrayal is still a pretty solid action platformer.

Hailing from the same series that debuted back in the early 2000's on consoles, Bloodrayne follows the adventures of Rayne, a dhampir employed by the enigmatic Brimstone Society to rid the world of evil supernatural threats. While sharing the same names and principles, Betrayal has no bearing on the other two games in the series.

And I'll admit, I do actually like the first Bloodrayne game. Campy, but it never took itself seriously. The sequel was butts, though. And then Rayne had the honor of posing in Playboy's Girls of Gaming spread.

Well.

Luckily here, Rayne isn't subjected to such crass treatment. While being a lady with respective lady bits, Rayne's sexuality is never a selling point in this game, and I appreciate that. The gameplay at hand features tricky platforming replete with lasers, acid pools, spiked ceilings/walls, and all other sorts of dangerous hazards. Enemies feature other vampires, ghouls, and all sorts of foul abominations. Combat is fast and fluid, offering combos, aerials, some ranged weaponry, and the ability to harvest health from enemies or infect them to then strategically detonate them. While combat and platforming works well for the most part, Bloodrayne suffers from being kinda stiff. Rayne has trouble with finer movements and with keeping her footing; many attacks knock you down and there are times when you get stun locked to death.

But despite its brevity and its few moments of less than stellar controls, BloodRayne Betrayal gives satisfying action. It isn't terribly long, but its focused and to the point.
