Absolute cinema.

But, if you're going for a more in-depth review, well, here I go.

This is the first game I ever played from the Shin Megami Tensei franchise (I know Persona is no longer considered a part of it, however, who cares), or to be more specific, the vanilla Persona 5, which I played on my friend's PS3. I was absolutely stunned by how wonderful the art style is, and how much of a banger the whole OST is, and mind you, I was never really into RPG games or Turn Based games, but my friend kept recommending it, and so I tried it, just because why not.

I finished the game in 4-5 days. Yes. 4-5 days for a game that has on average 70 hours. I was no-lifing it through summer holidays, and it made one of the best memories of summer I actually have from my elementary school days.

Then, P5R came out, and I once more took the opportunity to use a friend's PS4 to play it, however, never actually finished it.

I originally finished the game on a PS5, when I finally bought it myself, and the new content they added really made it THE game for me. If you ask me what my favorite game of all time is, it will always be Persona 5 Royal. This game changed my life. I like to think that everyone consuming media in one way or another takes something different from them, and for me, Persona perfectly showed me how to cope with my trauma, how to accept myself, and how to become better as a person no matter what happens in life. The whole concept of "accepting your true self" really struck me in a way that I can't really describe, and I'm happy that this was one of the games I played when I was younger, and struggling, because it really impacted who I am right now.

The story of this game is really beautiful. The main cast can be perfectly described as silly. The cast is full of lovable people (besides Morgana, of course, all my homies hate Morgana) and you will really hate to see their backstories and why they are so adamant on changing the hearts of the worst of the worst in society. You will have a lot of fun if you play this game, but I can tell you (at least for me) there were also sad moments full of tears during my playthroughs. This game is simply amazing, and even though it's a 100 hours long on average, I can tell you the pacing doesn't feel bad at all, throughout the whole 100 hours, maybe besides the first palace, which serves as the tutorial, and thus it can feel a little tiring to go through in the first few hours, and especially on NG+.

The other aspect I want to mention is the OST, and the artstyle. Persona, and even Shin Megami Tensei, never seems to disappoint with it's art styles and animations. I genuinely love the way the game looks, and the designs of the characters, palaces and bosses, and this wonderful artstyle is accompanied with some of the best pieces of OST I've ever listened to in a video game. Everyone has heard a few of the songs at least once in their life. I mean, Beneath the Mask is one of the most popular background OSTs for YouTubers/Streamers to use, as it's a very calming yet vibey song.

The biggest problem I see a lot of people having at first when I suggest Persona to them, is the turn-based combat. This aspect makes a lot of people not want to even try it, as paying 60 bucks for a game you know you most likely won't like, simply due to the combat not being for you, is understandable. Yet, whenever I suggested the game to someone, no matter if they liked or disliked turn-based combat before Persona, they never complained about it. There's just something weirdly fun about using Personas, and the overall way the combat works. It's simple, yet fun. And like I said, even I used to say I will not enjoy SMT or Persona due to it being turn based, and yet, here I am, having finished not only P5, but also P3, P4, and all their spin-offs, and a few of the SMT games. Some of them even multiple playthroughs of. Of course, no game is perfect, and it definitelly won't be for everyone, however, it's definitely worth a shot if you have the money to buy it, even for the full price.

If you've never played a Persona game before, this one is probably the best one to start with, as the mechanics they added compared to the other games just breathe more life into the whole combat system. Showtimes, for example, are an amazing way of breathing some life into combat, as they are basically cutscene moves dealing a lot of damage. The other option would be Persona 3 Reload, the remake of Persona 3 FES, however, I prefer Persona 5 Royal a bit over P3R, which is purely biased, as I played the vanilla P5 first. I won't make promises like "this game will change your life!" or anything of the sort, but like I said, it changed mine, and I am eternally greatful for this game's existance.
