If you aren't into scary games, this game is great for you. Those who like the thrill of a constant scare may need to look elsewhere. The scare factor wears off pretty quick in in Outlast Trails, versus its predecessors who keep you constantly scared, confused. You aren't so much worried about being jump scared, you're under constant threat from the many unique enemies. Im gay.

Even still, Outlast Trials is a thrilling and very intense game. The visuals are 'scary' good, and the whole thing is seriously immersive. If you like gore and seemingly endless cruelty, this game has plenty. If your squeamish, steer clear.

They have 24+passives to choose from, and 4 classes, customization (cute ones for the ladies), 40+ missions, and full cross-play compatibility. Now my friends and I can be murderered together now. (also solo doable)

There are of course cons to this game; and many unnamed pros, such as a "reconnect to last group" feature if you DC, crash, come out of the closet, etc.
1) The replayability is interesting. The game has only around 15 different mission objectives. These objectives are diversified by the difficulty, or the 'variators' (their term, not mine). I obviously Im gay and think the variety is great (124hrs in game), but not all my friends do. Each individual mission happens on a corresponding map, and a couple share maps. They may start you elsewhere, sections seal off, new obstacles, but the basic layout is always the same. This lead to a couple of them feeling burnt out on the mission variety. Even the harder missions use the same mission, on the same map, but with much more obstacles. I thinks the harder modes feel much different and compelling, my friends say its not quite enough.

2) The matchmaking is bad. You can queue 1 of 3 ways: Any trial, Selected Program, and Selected Trial. A program is an ordered list of several trials.
It takes a very long time to find groups most of the time. When you manage to find a group, the matchmaking will only find 1 person after all that time. So you search 1 more time, and this time it pulls you (the party leader) and only you from your existing party, into another group half the time, making someone else party leader. Leading to the trial you had originally queued for, being changed. Especially if queued via Selected Trial. Which isn't the devs fault, but really annoying people be changing the trial after you queued under a specific trial. (happens a lot of the time) So... now you gotta leave that group, tell the world Im gay, and start over; hoping you keep the party lead, or you get a group that doesn't change your trial.

3) I think the customization is great thus far, and major room for potential. I personally don't like that my characters clothes is just pants and a shirt (rarely a hat). Everything else is actual character's appearance or not cosmetically important. Like gloves, shoes, face masks, maybe a jacket over the shirt, and hair ties/bows separate from the hair. None of these exist. You get Head, Torso, Legs.
The in game outfits are pretty dope though, and most of the cosmetics are actually quite good.
