I want to love this game so much. But i feel it misses the mark in a very core way. For darkest dungeon 2 they changed the core formula from DD1 to be more roguelite and repeatable. Deciding to leave behind elements such as hero investment and resource management. When a hero dies in DD1 it can be heartbreaking. In DD2 you just go "ohh well time to restart this run". You dont care about your characters, there is no point in naming them or building a story with them because you know they will come back with the same name next time and lose nothing.
As a fan of DD1 with over 200 hours i need to say this game isnt bad, but its lost a lot of the things we loved about the first game. When i sit down and ask myself what reason i have to play this, the only thing that has kept me playing for so long is the intense, against all odds combat that i fell in love with. But i can find that in the first game and enjoy it more.
This game feels like a spin-off rather than a true sequel and for some there will be fun to be found here. But if your looking for more of DD1 you may be disappointed.
