The game is fun for a few hours. As it stands, there is very little to do in the game. The progression is laughable to say the least. I'm not one of the people who are slamming this for the physics, those are easy to work around just don't drive like your irl lunatic self and exercise some proper behavior behind the wheel (I know this is hard because so few people are accustom to it in their own cars) and you will have little to no problems.

Several issues that I have are going to be fixed, the dev has already mentioned them in a youtube vid and is working/worked on them so that's good. On the progression side of things, right now you literally have 1 option to automate your work. Yes, there's the super drill Goliath, but it's not automate-able as it stands. With the new update adding the D.A.V.I.D. it could potentially make it automated but right now, it's not.

The biggest issue, and the one that has brought me to this review and to stop playing is the repair/break system. If you use filters, then your drill/grinders wont break as much. That's great! But wait, there's a catch. Your damn filter is going to break every 5 minutes and totally stop water from moving through the pipes. I like having to manage the systems, for gods sake I play games that are micromanaging intense all the time and love them, but there is something totally off about the frequency of breaks, at least in respect to filters. There needs to be a massive balance done to these mechanics more so then the physics.

If you want a game to last a few hours this is totally worth the price. I don't think I've found a game this cheap that is as well done. If you want a gold mining game, this is the one to go for. Sure, Gold Rush The Game may have much more in progression and much more play time possibility, but for a game that ALL of its mechanics work, maybe not perfectly but at least they work, Hydroneer beats GRTG by a long shot. I would direct the dev to the breaks in GRTG to look for a better system/frequency to base off. That being said... what the f*ck is the point of the second vehicle? You can destroy a huge part of land in moments but you have to refuel the damn thing every 2-3 buckets. At least these vehicles... you know, work (I'm looking at you Gold Rush and your damn dozer). Also, don't plan on making a nice slope with the terraforming tools... just don't try. Dig a damn hole and use the slanted ladders. I also feel that the pick axe needs to be sped up or a better tool be added to ease the pain of diging out a hole. Right now a small cavern takes about 30 min to do and it will hardly hold anything in it so uh... yeah, speed that up a little please?

*UPDATE AFTER UPDATE 1.3*
I thought the new update would add much needed things and solve a bunch of problems. Instead, it added in the problem of items just falling through the damn conveyors again. Oh, dirt also has some amazing collisions that stop it from falling on the processors... that's nice. Love the new smelter, and the funnels can actually be used... if all the items didn't just phase through things and the dirt didn't just float. Somehow, with less single ore piece floating around performance with the new parts has gotten way worse. So much has been added in terms of goal making but progression still isn't really there. The game at this point is just a grinder, kinda like a clicker but a few more functions. The new DAVID item is really cool and a fantastic idea... it doesn't work worth a damn. It sometimes fills the spot above it, and I was under the impression it was supposed to fill a column above it. I have 75%ish pressure on it and it hardly works. It isn't worth it to use the thing because of the pressure crystals they take.

1/20/2021 MAJOR 1.6 Logic and Power update!
So I decided to give this another go because I saw there were some big updates. The vehicle doesn't go flying the moment you bump into things anymore so that's nice. That's not saying it wont do it on occasion, but it's not as frequent as it used to be.
I felt like the game in general was running quite well, up to the point that I started getting some sorters running and oh boy, does the lag start. I had a huge multi line set up in the past, and that only caused minor lag because the ores were stuck in-between the conveyors and sorters. This time, I have a single line. 1 ram drill, 1 grinder, and 1 sorter... 20 fps when I get anywhere near it. No, there isn't ore getting stuck in there like before so that's good. No, there isn't tons of ore on the ground, so that's good. I have no clue what's causing the lag. It's not my PC either. I have drastically upgraded since the last time I played: 32gb of DDR4 2133 MHz, i9-10900K, and a 1080Ti, so it's not a pc issue at all. The performance of this game has somehow, gotten much worse. Oh, I also lost 3 axes when I heated up the iron bars and forged them... they just went into space. I'll have to contract Elon to go get them for me I guess. I can't forge any weapon on the anvil without looking like I'm trying to beat China to the moon, cheaper and faster. I'm not sure how the logic stuff works, but god it seems way over complicated for this game. That's not to say it isn't usable, I know how to do stuff in Factorio so complex logic isn't an issue of mine. It just seems like for the scope of this game, that it's way too much. There is still no more content to this game than the last time I reviewed it. I think the only thing added was the logic stuff, and that's not game advancement, it's just more fluff. The damn filters seem to break a little less frequently, but idk if that's just me not remembering and hoping for the best. They still break way too fast.

TLDR: Don't buy this even when it's out of EA. The devs have no clue what they are doing. They should have launched the game as complete when it went into EA. It was a much more fun game then and the few QL changes they made are the only good updates.

This game is very pretty. The graphics alone are enough to make you drool. I have changed my view on this game otherwise sadly. I don't honestly think this game is worth anyones time. Countless issues pop up with every update, and the number of bugs they fix seem to only be really small stupid things like a minor visual glitch instead of game breaking bugs.

I used to have quite a bit of fun with this game when it first came out, but now with all of the changes it's hardly the same game. The HUD when ship breaking is absolute trash. The old system had timers on your oxygen so you could actually time when you needed to go back to the hub and refill but now it's just some obscure bar with no good indication of fill level. Their story aspect is boring and stupid as well. But I can deal with the HUD being hard to read, that's fine. The real issue... what in the ♥♥♥♥ is the terminal UI change? Holy hell is it ugly as hell and super painful to even look at for more than a few seconds. Then, with the most recent update (Act II), they have now split up the terminal into several "interactable" spots around the hab. So cool, we can now move around a space in order to do stuff... that's cool, right? It's a glorified point and click interaction with long and weird camera shifts to get around the room, and it's not even a point and click, it's just click. It's not easy to use, and just makes it even harder to repair you gear, upgrade gear, check messages etc. . I really feel like this dev team has just said ♥♥♥♥ it to what worked in the past, we need to be new every update to keep attention and let me tell you, it's not keeping anyones attention.

The new Javelin class ships are super cool to look at, but that's about it. There are so many problems with this new ship that it is just too hard to actually make use of them. If you want to disconnect the parts of the ship, you have to destroy other parts such as the air locks because the outer hull is solid rings instead of segmented panels like ALL of the other ships. The air locks get stuck between the outer hull parts that need to go to the processor, and the inner living spaces that need to go to the furnace. So say goodbye to using the airlocks and sending them into the barge.

So many things are attached in unexpected ways, that you literally wont even see the attachment, because there isn't a physical one. The big fuel tanks in the middle of these new ships are connected via KSP's magic quantum struts that you can't see. You have to cut up areas of the ship that make no sense, just to get it loose from the rest of the ship that it isn't physically in contact with. No it's not just getting stuck, it is literally anchored to parts with out a physical anchor.

My other gripe is about the new demo charges. Why in the hell, do they have the power of an atomic bomb? Just place one of these tiny, 5inx5in pads on the ship, detonate, and send the ENTIRE ship flying into the damn furnace. I understand it's space and they should have a little push, but these things can literally fling the whole ship from one side of the bay to the other and ruin your salvaging. I personally didn't have a problem with the laser cutter chopping up the hull pieces. I was smart enough to not just willy nilly cut the ♥♥♥♥ out of a ship which I feel like is part of this games angle. Being smart with your cuts, so you don't destroy the ship but can salvage it. So making the laser ONLY a lvl 1 cut, and demanding the use of the det charges is horrible. I like the charges, they are very cool and I enjoy using them. But with the force they apply, it's worthless to me.

I don't know if I will put much more time into this game now. If I have to be using these charges on the internal parts of ships... I wont play it more than a few more hours, if any at all. This game was so much fun before the det charges were added and they may just have single handedly ruined the game for me. This game is still very cool, and beautiful. I love the new Javelin because it looks really cool and who doesn't like new free content? But it's kind of unplayable for me. Maybe these are super specific issues that someone else has a solution to, but I have yet to find one. I have tried putting the det charges in opposing directions to fight the force of eachother to little success. Since they are sequential, and there (as far as I know) isn't a simultaneous detonation option, you can't fight the pushing they do. The ship will still be flung around.

I'm one of those people that want to salvage everything, and forcing us into a corner where we HAVE to blow up something, or break tons of stuff just to get one other item isn't a fun thing. I have mastered all of the other ships. I can get 100% scrap all of the other ships with almost no loss of valuable material. I can even get the damn reactors out of the giant Geckos with out any kind of reactor issue and that's a chore. I'll leave this as recommended because I do like this game a lot and it is very pretty. But the new changes have ruined many of the things I liked so much about this game.

New Update to game as of 5/7/2021:
Doesn't look like any of the weird issues have been fixed, just more added. The game now crashes rather frequently on the first cut you do on a ship so that's nice. They have added a new 20 cert levels, removed the objectives for collecting certain things in the certs and work orders are non-existent. So what has this update done?

1. Dumbed down the entire game. They removed the specifics in favor of a really generic percentage of ship salvaged (which doesn't actually show you a percentage).
2. Dumbed down the HUD. There are no longer numbers for health, O2, or fuel, there's just some obscure bar that drains which is totally better than seeing an actual number on how much you have of those... The timer on your shift is now obscure and hard to notice at first and is kind of hard to actually read.
3. Added, from what I can tell at cert 8, 1 new type of ship.
4. Spread out the progression to extend play time, aka, more grinding to get to the same spot as before.
5. Increased the max debt while making it seemingly harder to money.
6. Released about 4 campaign driven events (just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dialogue that doesn't change anything about how you play).
7. Introduced a bug where pieces of the ship will just not move no matter how many tethers are on it.
8. Changed the barge, furnace, and the processor to be turned off when you enter the yard every time. This sounds cool since you get to see the really cool barge start up sequence and giant puffs of blue/red smoke come out of the holes, but in reality it just causes tons of lag and weird issues. You have to wait about 15 seconds before the barge can be used so if you throw something down there, make sure you watch it and see that it doesn't hop back out.
9. Screwed up the way the barge handles items it doesn't want. Say you put a reactor cap in the barge and it had a shield still on it, well, that shield is now one with the barge. Since the barge is now a volume box instead of just a snapping grid, things get stuck under the top level of it if it doesn't score them.

Its fun for a while, but gets so tedious that it's hardly enjoyable. If you really like, and I mean to the point that you get off just at the thought of excessive grind and micro, then this game is ok. I keep coming back ever so often to see what has changed and I have to say, over the course of the game it's not much. There are so many glitches and bugs that make somethings just annoying to do and others so hard you might as well not do them at all. It takes so much to get past the early game if you don't play on the easiest difficulty with the gold nugget setting on, which means you get huge nuggets frequently that buffer your cash massively, that the grind is terribly boring. When you're using the big excavators, expect hideous graphic glitches as well as physical issues that will never be fixed. When you push the bucket down into a hole you're digging, the camera just goes ballistic and destroys the land graphic so you have no clue where your bucket is in reference to the dirt. Not to mention good luck even seeing into the damn hole from any angle that makes it possible to see what you're doing. So the solution is to use the dozer and make paths right? HA... try it. I don't understand the few people that have managed to get that thing to work. The bucket gets stuck on literally EVERYTHING and hardly moves dirt, it actually destroys it last I checked which means you lose money so that's fun. The dump truck is probably the only thing that works correctly and even then, it's buggy as hell and hard to use right.

To wrap it up, the controls are really not that great. The graphics aren't that great. The game play isn't that great. Have fun running the excavator's bucket... Also enjoy the terrible lag spikes with every auto save and the terrible frame rate for such a low quality graphic game despite the monster of a PC you own. Don't waste your money on the DLC either... that should just be in this lack luster game.

Very fun game if you like bridge builders but be ready for a massive difficulty spike. 70 bridges in and my progress has come to a halt taking a large amount of time just to get a working prototype. There isn't much information on the types of bridges or machines you will have to design such as a crane, seesaw, trap doors... It's more of a puzzle game then a bridge builder. At one point there's even a valid spot to make an elevator. If you want a casual bridge building experience, you will get it for the first 30 bridges. From there on it gets very complex. Most of the things I build aren't even bridges anymore.

As a person who loves this type of game, and loved CivRev (YES... I know it's civ lite but come on, it's fantastic), this game really isn't that great. It just seems overly tedious. I played V as well and frankly, it's better but still not good. If you want a good Civ game, go buy revolution on a console and stop being a PC master race member because that game is leagues above this and consoles aren't bad. Hell, at least you don't have to have a $2K+ box to play it, not including the cost of peripherals.

Seriously one of the most fun games I have ever played. The main game can last hundreds of hours easily. Constantly making a better base, trying to find new things to do, and pulling out your hair because you downloaded Angel's and Bob's mods... this game is fantastic. When you finally feel like you've mastered the main game, and even if you haven't because that takes ages, you can dive into mods and holy crap... is there a metric ♥♥♥♥ ton. Buy this game, it is too low price for how fantastic it is and how much support and development it gets constantly.

Easily one of the most fun games I have played in a long time. No matter how long I play the same save file I keep coming back to it with hopes of turning my one provence Irish nation into a world dominating power, which is made easier by awkwardly gaining the whole of the Byzantine Empire due to some strange inheritance of marrying off my mother... This game is absolutely fantastic to play if you are into this type of grand strategy game. Each time you play it is almost completely different from the last. Go start a game as Portugal and once you've taken it a bit far try it again... you will have very different out comes ignoring your gained knowledge.

CK2 takes quite a bit of time to learn how to play it and even more time to figure out a half baked strategy to stay alive. This game is good on its own with no DLC but you are severely limited on how much you can do or who you can play. If you can get this game and the DLC on sale, and you have the $100+ to do that then I would strongly recommend it. You don't have to buy the picture packs or the music packs and I would not recommend doing so unless you have the extra $50 to burn.

Come on, what other game allows your daughter to turn into a polar bear, take control of the French Empire, and then declare a war on you because shes a bear and you're human and that's a good enough reason? Or makes it to where your 4 year old daughter decides you are unfit to rule the country, and over powers you with a small kinfe and kills the same man who lead an army single handedly to conquer all of Spain? Or even better, you get a small cold so your physician decides its a good idea to remove your left eye to cure you, which then he decides you have cancer and removes your testicles. THEN you have cancer again so he needs to perform some mystery surgery which he didn't get you quite sedated all the way so the pain made you a lunatic. THEN the cancer returned so he removed your leg... I'll wait... Oh yeah, I also made my Irish/Greek family some how connected to Alexander the great thanks to my weird inheritance so that was fun. Word of advice... don't play board games with the reaper... you're probably not going to like the out come no matter how good you are.

I will say this game is entertaining to an extent. I bought it because I was watching Arumba play it on Youtube and was irritated with how he was playing it... so I bought it myself to do it right haha.
I'm not sure this game has more value then 1 play through, in fact I'm certain it doesn't. It's a very linear game with little deviation. I've only done 1 playthrough on the hardest difficulty and to be honest, there isn't any challenge to be heard of. Once you get started that's it. There isn't any real curve to the difficulty and it actually plateaus pretty early on. To be challenged at this game you have to really be bad at it or making an effort to do badly. If you buy a few properties, give out loans, and don't spend your money beyond the end turn taxes/cost, then you will win. It's not hard in the slightest.
The trade market system is cool, but a joke. Prices fluctuate a little but not enough to make you watch it and sell while the price is high or hold it while it's low. I started off by watching the price move up and down by .1 or .2 every turn waiting for it to go high, but it's really not worth it. By about 10% into the game I just started selling every turn cause it didn't matter at all. Don't bother trying to buy resources while they are low either... the price automatically drops 50% when you try to sell... totally how trade markets work.
When it comes to the war system... wtf even is this? You pick a side of the war (hopefully the side that is yours which has no indication and can be confusing since the menu swaps sides every war) and you donate weapons to your side for a profit. Somehow, that makes your side better off and as soon as you get more money then the other side can put toward it on turn 1, you win. The other side doesn't increase its standing at all throughout the course of the war so it's just a dumb system that makes no sense. Not to mention you can't see allies, not that it matters in all honesty so I understand why they didn't take the time to put some way to see it.
If you want a game that you can screw around with then sure, this game is good for a bit. If you're looking for something that will hold your attention for 10+ hours this isn't it. Honestly, the $11.99 price tag is too high. This is just a glorified clicker with a little spit polish.

Edit after science update:
So... science.... is a joke. They went and took one of the stats, S, and just relabeled it so they could use it somewhere else without actually modifying the things that say the S stat does this. It would be like, making a gun and saying its damage is 12, but then changing that stat to meaning accuracy but not editing the tool tip to read that so instead you think the dps is 12 but its some unknown number somewhere else... How can a company be so inept?
Moving on, the science system (not really moving on but it's another idea so yeah). The game is ruined with the science. It turns the difficulty into just a word that's meaningless. It's way unbalanced. Not to mention, just plane stupid. Half of the research just doesn't make sense or there's not possible way to use it. At the end of a 300 turn game how the hell am I supposed to be using 600,000 production a turn to make weapons? It's way over powered and clearly wasn't tested at all before release... this seem like a recurring theme here...

By no means is this game user friendly. If you want to play on a server say goodbye to everything you ever had if you want to play alone or with a few friends cause all that will happen is greifing. From super high levels constantly watching your base, waiting for you to leave just to take the little that you have to them grabing you with birds and flying you out to the middle of nowhere just to drop you to your death... multiplayer is a great experience for sure. If you play the PvE servers it just feels like something is missing though. The only way I can stomach this game is making my own private server and fighting with the ports to let my friends join and then we play with just us. This makes it a bit boring because you never see anyone else though, so while you can do it the game feels some what empty. They don't fix their bugs, they don't try to help player ease into the game, it's just hell the moment you join. If you can manage to hid for the first few weeks of the game time and build up a nice base with decent defenses it wont matter. Eventually some max level will find you, and they will destroy everything you have simply to destroy it. It's the same way on xbox so it's not just the terrible PC community. If you want to ♥♥♥♥ around riding dinos with friends on a private server then this game is great. If you want to play the game how it was intended to be played... good luck getting anywhere.
Side note... don't host a server via the game hosting it's worthless. Tether... that's all I will say. Go find a video that has you use the steam CMD to create a server but be aware this game is enormous and every damn server you make is exactly the same size as this whole game and finding the freaking string for the map names is one of the dumbest things I've ever come a cross. Also, have fun with the 5 hr download to make the server and then constant full data updates that also take 5 hrs with good internet if you chose to go this route.

All in all, don't waste your money here... it's almost as bad as Battlegrounds... that's saying something.

Felt the need to update based on the current community developments. The amount of cheating and griefing has skyrocketed. If you're a girl, and there is absolutely ANY chance you will get someone from California, don't play this. I don't understand how a state that fights so hard for equality, has so many people that instantly go after women on this game. In hindsight... I guess it makes sense why they are trying so hard. I don't think I've encountered a more hostile group on the internet that can be summed up in one state.

This game is fun dont get me wrong, but there's too much that's not enjoyable. From five year olds screaming I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ your mom in the ass last night, to the much older community screaming about god knows what, this community is terrible. If you have nice skins in the game, you are verbally abused. If you don't have nice skins in the game, you are verbally abused. Almost every game in COMP will have someone cheating, throwing, griefing, or the most common, smurfing. It used to be a really enjoyable game, and easy to get out of the terrible lower ranks. Now, you will be stuck in silver or gold for ever with no chance of getting out thanks to the community. On average, I get 2 teammates who want to use their mics, 2 that don't want to but do to play music, scream, or insult, and generally 1-2 people who have mics, but wont use them. The worst is when you get a clan in your match, on your team, and the 2 people in the clan wont use their mics at all because they are in TS or Discord or a Skype call. If you want a casual game to mess around in with your friends, it's not a bad choice. Just don't expect to have a very fun experience in the competitive side of the game... They have a VAC system in play, but it hardly works. They need to come up with someway of stopping smurfs, and that would make this game so much more enjoyable.

7/13/2020 Update.
I'm not sure if it's maybe due to the player base giving up on the "Anti-Cheat" system that keeps getting 'Updated' but this game is out of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wack. I've been stuck in silver because of consistent games like this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/685718671452274689/732436940317655040/unknown.png
What in the world is this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ matchmaking? Can someone tell me how this is enjoyable? How in the hell did they think this is how matchmaking should work? This game just gets worse the longer it goes on.

Another thing that I love about this game is the change to friendly fire. If you throw a molotov, something super useful for holding a position, and a teammate runs into and dies, you will get the TK. I have had several games where teammates just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ run into my molotov and gets me kicked for it. It's not an accident, it's totally intentional to get people kicked. Valve... please change this back. This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid.

Edit 1/8/2021
Alright, this game just keeps getting worse. The community gets more toxic every damn day. I play this with a girl frequently and about 90% of the people on here (the majority are from Cali) will immediately go off telling her to suck their d*ck or some other terrible thing. They have also now removed bots from competitive matches. So basically, if you have a terrible teammate that is throwing and ruining the match for you, you might as well just leave them in the game so you can lose with them. Because if you kick them, you wont get a bot to fill the slot. AND if you have a teammate that abandons, or multiple, YOU WILL GET NO BOTS TO FILL THE SLOT. So what they have basically done, is made 1v5 comp matches a thing.

They don't fix any of the problems in this game, they just add new ones. What in the hell even is this bot removal update for? Oh no! A team that's down 1 player has a chance of their top player coming back to life! Not like the damn bot would listen to commands anyway.
To top this all off... they were awarded the labor of love... DID THE PEOPLE THAT VOTED FOR THIS GAME EVEN HAVE IT ON THEIR ACCOUNT TO PLAY!?

They have made this game free, made the verified account status FREE, and basically have made comp unplayable.

If you don't find a hacker, you will most certainly find a teammate that, the moment you open your mouth to call out, will tell you to f*cking die in a hole, and then they will start throwing... if they weren't already. I don't even know why I still try to play this. I'm stuck in silver because of throwing teammates. I know, if I can just get up into Gold Nova, that I will fall right back into silver because everyone below LE just throws now a days, so why do I even try.

6/23/2021, so they have since realized making the past paid for prime free was a mistake so now free players can't be prime again... you know, like it was to begin with before the game got plagued with hackers and smurfs. It's improved a little but not much.
