This isn't really a resident evil game at this point, but it's more than 7 was. I thought 7 was really well done but I didn't like it at all. This game, I like parts, and hate others. The combat is fun just like the old RE games so if you are coming from pre RE7 or are a fan of RE4, you will probably like this game. My biggest issue is just how little care the devs gave certain parts of the game. At a glance the game is beautiful, but if you look beyond initial shock and awe you will see tons of weak cover up for really poorly done things. Cut scenes are hit and miss as well. Some run great and look great, while others desynch with audio, or show how little the designers cared if something clipped horribly (Look at Moreau's death scene for the best example of this). I'm really conflicted on whether I should recommend this or not. I like this game quite a bit compared to 7, but I don't like it anywhere near as much as the previous titles. If you are a casual difficulty player of RE, you will laugh at how stupidly easy it is in RE8. I played through on the normal difficulty, and it was a challenge at most times, not that the game was hard, but just like 7 I never really had that much ammo and enemies are bullet sponges. There's also not a great mechanic surrounding guns. The magnum is unbelievably strong. The pistols are surprisingly weak. The Sniper is dead in the middle and I don't even know what to say about shot guns. They are strong one shot, then the next almost worthless. It's hard to even use a pistol, but you get so little ammo for other guns that you have to use the weak POS. I know pistols are meant to be the primary weapon so they can't be OP, but ffs, they are waaaay too weak. On the normal difficulty it takes over 40 hits to fight slightly harder than the general ads. On village of shadows I tried fighting the first daughter with guns... that didn't happen. After about 30 pistol rounds, 20 shotgun shells, 4 magnum hits, and about 5 heals, I died and then just dropped mines until she died and stopped playing that difficulty. I was on new game + so I had upgraded gear but holy hell is that hard. If you like a game with a decent combat system, absolutely no direction as to where you are supposed to go or what the hell you are doing when you need it, but an overly straightforward direction that is really well displayed, so you are constantly lost when it counts this is the game for you. I don't like horror games but I have to say, for that being a focus they did a great job. Screw that damn doll house man...

Long story short, I like this game, but it's not really worth $60. And ffs, don't buy the extra content. Holy hell is that a really bad money grab. The hanging ornaments can't go on any guns but the first pistol and shotgun, which are both absolute trash from the moment you get them. On that note, what the hell is the logic behind making weapons fire so damn slow? The first pistol by all means should likely be the fastest, but the 1911 is way faster and then there's the suped up glock that fires fast as well. And the SYS, semi-auto shot gun that is an AK platform, is the slowest out of the box. HOW IS A PUMP FASTER? There's so many little things that just ruin what this game could have been. Try not to look at the giant holes in the terrain or the floating rocks, and you will have a wonderful visual experience, but be lost to the depths of hell in the mansion and factory.
