I've been playing Okami since I was 7 years old across multiple platforms. Probably have well over 1000+ hours in it. To put it simply: this game is a masterpiece. Clover Studios put so much love and time and effort into this game and it really shines through the gorgeous environments, engaging characters, unique and intense enemies, and wonderful soundtrack. The combat is invigorating and unlike anything you'll find in other games. While the names have been Americanized, every character and enemy comes straight out of Japanese mythology; they all have purpose and meaning.
Okami is not without it's cons, though:
1) Very easy, do not expect a super challenging game
2) The tutorial phase lasts longer than it should; throughout the first arc it may feel like your hand is being held
3) Can feel repetitive and linear at times
But nostalgia aside, these reasons do not take away from the overall experience. When you play as Amaterasu, Goddess of the Sun in the form of a wolf, you truly do come to love her and every charming character in this game.
