Another turn-based game I thoroughly enjoyed!

Finally a game which really focusses on stealth and doesn't have nonsense "finish in 5 turns or you're dead" missions.
Phantom Doctrine allows you to take your time with missions, stealthily take out security measures and enemies and get out without anyone being the wiser.

The game is set in the cold-war era and really does a good job in pulling you into the conspiracy plots of that time.
The tactical missions are great fun and provide a variety of weapons and skills to use.
In between missions you solve 'case files' just like in the movies, putting pictures and notes on a bulletin board and trying to find connections.

You agents all have their own backgrounds (KGB, CIA, Mossad, ... ) and their own proficiencies.
They can be trained to use different weaponry and even enhanced using biochemical substances (giving more movement, action points, ...).
A nice touch is that also their language plays a role: agents who speak the language of the area the mission takes place in can distract enemies.

Around mid-game you unlock the ability to manipulate enemy agents and here the game reminded me of Battletech. In Battletech you don't want to kill an enemy mech, you want to salvage it.
Similarly here you want to subdue and capture an enemy agent to interrogate, brainwash, have them sabotage enemy cells or even convert them to you cause.

The game does have some minor inconsistencies, for example your agents can jump from 2 stories high, they can break windows without anyone blinking an eye etc.
Near the end the missions became a bit repetitive and some parts in the story were tricky to follow (as if some parts were missing).
On the technical side it runs perfectly stable, I didn't enounter a single bug or crash.

I played the game on normal difficulty and spend about 80 hrs to finish it, however I prolonged my playthrough for specific achievements, so I assume around 60 hrs is the campaign length.
After finishing the game you unlock an extended story mode and a new background, I'm definitely going to try that one out!

A very solid turn-based stealth game, I give it a 9/10 !

Update 05/02/2020
I now finished also the Extended Mossad campaign on Hard mode and had a blast!
Initially it's tricky since your agents have low hitpoints and no silenced weapons, but after passing that hurdle the playthrough was again extremely fun.
The Mossad background was intriguing and the plot-twist at the end I didn't see coming!
This was hands down one of the best turn-based games I ever played!
