Lots of quality of life enhancements from the original games. Vastly graphically enhanced which also makes the game easier to play as it is easier to differentiate between textures and units. Dedicated servers vastly reduce the in game lag (they have had their issues which have been resolved for the most part).

Currently the biggest issue is stability. This is still being developed and hopefully the amount of crashes/disconnects will reduce.

New civs and new balance keep things interesting especially at a higher level. People played the same meta for over a decade so it's nice to see change .

It's a shame that mods are not done through the steam store and instead done in such a way that people who own the game on xbox can also use the mod center, it is rather bare bones compared to the workshop.

There have also been some issues with bugs introduced in DE that were not in the original, these for the most part have been resolved. Pathing still has some minor issues but nothing as bad as it was in the past.

If you enjoyed playing AOC back in the day I would certainly recommend playing DE. It's not perfect but it is certainly better than what we have had previously in terms of experience in its current state,
