Early Access Review
Squad is a deep game, not an arcade shooter. It's all about teamwork, communication, tactics, and movement. It is truly immersive, and when teams are organized, it can feel like a real combined arms battle, where each squad (armor, support, infantry, etc) has their own objectives that contribute to the overall strategy. It's like a first-person RTS where all units and soldiers are controlled by real players.

The game isn't about aim, - it's about utilizing the tools at your disposal. If you are an infantry grunt, your tools are your rifle, grenades and shovel. Special classes are equipped with situation-specific tools and weapons. Squad leaders have 8 players under their command, and can use them as needed, included to build bases. And the successful Commander can dexterously organize the entire team - tanks, helicopters, infantry squads, and fire support - to successfully attack or defend an objective.

I'm approaching 2000 hours played, and while I love the gameplay and assets in the game, there are still problems that OWI needs to address. Map design leaves much to be desired. The UI/UX is still not the greatest. And it's still 40v40 instead of 50v50. However, things have improved massively (though slowly) over the last 3 years, so I'm confident that OWI will continue to polish and update the game for years to come. And now that they are incorporating the awesome community mods into the official game, there is much to look forward to!
