Small side note - this is the 1,000th review on the VIVE VR group! (Key obtained via this curator group)

So, I actually got a key the other day for the desktop version(thinking it was a VR key), and it was kind of ringing a bell with me but I just figured I must have seen something about the game somewhere. Turns out I had gotten a VR key last year, but never played it! So here we are!

IRON GUARD VR (Love it when the title is actually all in caps and people think Im screaming lol) has a slighty dated feel to it, I think its the voice acting and sounds that just make me think of games from 2010 or so. Despite that, the game is solid in its presentation overall. Graphically the world is adequate, with nice structures and enemy models.

Gameplay is pretty straight forward. Your left hand controls the building function, and your right hand is your ship which you use during the battle sequences to manually attack. There does appear to be some aim assist in this VR version, which I wont complain about ;p It is a slow starter, with only the most basic of attack and turret available initially. Everything else must be unlocked. There is a decent amount to unlock in the skill tree(s), of course you have a number of different turret types, upgrades for your fighter ship, as well as base defense.

Settings are minimal. There is a single graphical option, 3 audio sliders, and some movement options. The game has loco and teleport, and can be played fine while seated (tho no tweaks are given, it just works fine as is). There is no smooth turning, despite an option for it (its just snap turning, either instant or not).

Performance was a little odd. My first play session I set my refresh to 120Hz and put a small bump on SS (approx 3100x2800) with Ultra setting. With a 12900k/3090, my frame rate was all over the place, it was playable and I actually didnt know how bad the fps was until I checked the graphs afterwards (tho I could tell it was dropping frames for sure). What is strange tho is the fact that neither the CPU or GPU were being well utilised, with the instances of fps in the 60-80 region only using well under half the GPU :S I decided to fire the game up again and try a map using 90Hz and bringing down the SS to near default (about 160%), the game ran perfectly keeping 90 fps (GPU typically @58%/270w).

IRON GUARD VR is a decent TD game. Mechanically it is on the simple side, making it more preferable to newcomers to the genre. The game does have a good amount of content and is fairly priced, so even tho TD is not my favourite genre I feel this is worth the thumbs up. Also note the desktop version is due out later today, if thats your thing!
