Every now and then, you play a game that appears to be a generic third person shooter. But under its covers is a great game that isn't so generic, primarily because it doesn't take itself seriously at all. Binary Domain is one of those games. It has a somewhat generic plot of an evil executive/inventor who uses their robots to cause havoc and is creating an experiment that the US government isn't fond of, so the US government and the Geneva convention send in a Rust Crew to uncover the conspiracy. Yeah, it sounds pretty generic. But it's an absolute blast to play. There's a reason why some over-the-top third person shooters are so popular, it's because they're so much fun!

What I also like about Binary Domain is the setting, the sprawling metropolis of Tokyo. And the main characters, their banter and wit makes the game so much more enjoyable and a bit light hearted instead of other third person shooters that take themselves too seriously. Binary Domain also utilizes a unique consequence system, where certain actions will either raise or lower the trust of your comrades. Dan Marshall, the character you play, runs into a number of people as your crew grows throughout the course of the game. Your actions can slightly effect the end of the game.

Overall, it's just a ridiculous action game with a pretty good story, but really great characters that you'll grow to love. Smooth gameplay too. It's, by no means, a masterpiece, but definitely a great game.

When people talk about some video games being true pieces of art, Valiant Hearts is a prime example of that. It carries raw emotion, atmosphere, story, character, all without the extremities of over the top action games. White, inherently, it is a puzzle game with a flowing story, Valiant Hearts is a true work of art.

KoToR II is one of those sequels to a game that is just as good, if not, better than the original. In my opinion, you can't choose between the two games. They're both equally masterpieces and due to the short time period between releases, they practically have the same value in terms of gameplay and graphics. What it really comes down to is the story. Which one has the better story? SPOILERS: Is it the first game? The rise and redemption of Revan who has lost his memory and taken on a new life? Or the second game? The story of an exile whom returns to civilization to find out, once and for all, why she was exiled and who is trying to kill her? As I said before, I can't pick between the two. The games are so well done in terms of RPG mechanics, gameplay, story, voice acting (okay, maybe the voice acting wasn't that amazing) and animation in certain areas.

The RPG mechanics is pre whatever we have now. It's a mixture of real time and having the ability to pause the game to plan out your course of attack. The people who updated KoToR II managed to implement the Steam controller, which, in this case, works just like a 360 controller. So it was less of a point and click situation and more so scrolling through the enemies before un pausing the game to continue the attack, if that makes sense. The game ran perfectly, no issues in any areas. The graphics are from 2004 or something, so it's not exactly pretty. At least the levels were really diverse and nothing was repetitive at all. The audio design, of course, was stellar. From the soundtrack to the sound foliage, it's just really well done.

Probably the greatest highlight in any Bioware (in this case, Obsidian) game are the characters. As I already pointed out, Obsidian did this one, but it's the sequel to a Bioware game. Bioware always sets a standard when gathering companions and what their perks are and how they interact with the player character during certain random events and whatnot. Each of the characters are unique and have their own unique sets of dialog in various situations, it's what's so remarkable about RPG games such as this. No other developer really goes that far and beyond to create such a wide and diverse set of characters that the player can bring along on their adventure.

Really, a great game. A masterpiece. Brilliant ending, too. It really should have led the way for a third game, but instead, we got that MMO. Still waiting on KoToR III Bioware or Obsidian!

If you have an AMD card, don't bother, you're just going to have a mess of problems in Chapter 2 and Chapter 8. I managed to get through Chapter 2, despite the crazy amount of frame drops, stuttering, crash to desktops, had to restart the computer a few times, etc. Chapter 8 though. I just can't do it. I manage to get to a part where I'm supposed to find a lever after travelling through a series of sewage pipes under a fortress and the game just freezes up after a crazy amount of stuttering and frame drops. Just not good optimization for AMD cards.

The game itself isn't bad. It's a fun action RPG in the Tolkein universe, so I was sold right away. You get to choose one of three characters, a man, a dwarf, and an elf. And you're not stuck with just that character, you can switch off in the main menu and continue from where you left off with any of the other characters. The combat is neat, but maybe a bit repetivie. The graphics are okay, but the character animation is pretty terrible. The combat animation, however, is actually great. The story isn't too compelling but you get to explore recognizable parts in the Tolkein universe as well as areas that have been mentioned but not necessarily explored in the novels or films. Basically, the plot involves the three characters banding together to fight off an evil force to the north while the Fellowship travels south towards Mordor.

I should mention the gameplay as well. It's extremely linear. Basically, you enter an area which is counted as a "Chapter", and you continue along a path in that area in Middle-earth until the end of the Chapter. So it's not open world if that's what any of you wanted to know.

If you have an Nvidia card and are a Tolkein fan, this game is good fun for its duration. No real replay value though.

7.0/10 (Nvidia cards)

5.0/10 (AMD cards)

GTA Vice City is a great game and maybe you've played it before on the PS2 or Xbox. This is less of a review and more of a, "here's what you need to get it running perfectly on PC." Because, by default, it doesn't support widescreen resolutions, you need to force v-sync, it has a number of bugs that can be fixed using a patch,

Let's start with the controller. This modder, Silent, is a diety. They've done so much for the classic GTA games. They modded the GInput inputs for 360 controllers so that the 360 controller button will actually appear on screen, not to mention function since Rockstar really didn't bother with controller support for the PC versions. Also, the controllers can be set to the style of GTA IV gameplay. This mod has full support of other controllers as well, such as the Dualshock and most certainly Logitech controllers. I haven't tried the Steam controller on it though. Download it here: http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=24272, you'll be able to pick out Vice City from the options given. Once download, just unzip and follow the instructions.

To get GTA Vice City working in widescreen, you will need to download a fix from ThirteenAG. It's extremely simple. Just download, unzip, and read the instructions. https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#gtavc You'll also see widescreen fixes for GTA III and San Andreas if you haven't gotten to those.

To force v-sync, it's going to depend on whether or not you're using an AMD or Nvidia card. I have an AMD R9 280, so if you have an AMD card, you're going to want to access the Radeon settings, go to the gaming tab, find Vice City, click it, find a tab that says "Wait for Vertical Refresh", hit the drop down arrow, you want it set to always on. On an Nvidia card, you want to open the Nvidia control panel, go to 3D settings, find Vice City from the drop down bar, select it, scroll down til you find v-sync, and same thing, set it to always on.

The SilentPatch is necessary if you want good lighting and shadowing. http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=25368, you have your options to choose from the classic GTA games, but be sure to also download the DDraw patch from the same set of downloads. It improves the draw distance. Download both files, extract, and read the instructions.

That should be about it. I hope you enjoy the game as it is quite a lot of fun. Brilliant soundtrack. Good story. Fun side missions (asset missions). Doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a solid 9.0/10

Dead Space 2 is a great horror game and a brilliant sequel to the another great horror game.

Set, I believe, three years after the events of the first game, Isaac Clarke wakes up in a psych ward in a hospital in a space station, just as the infection that wreaked havoc on the Ishimura (space ship) from the first game breaks out on this space station. Clarke makes his escape while having hallucinations but is also guided by a stranger. This is where the story really kicks off. Because I'm going to avoid giving away any spoilers, I'm just going to say that the person you hallucinate throughout the game is Nicole, Isaac's former love interest from the first game.

The brilliance of the horror elements in this game is that it isn't a jump scare type of game. It's genuinely terrifying because of the extent of damage done to this space station due to a breakout in the disease that transforms the people into these abominations of creatures. The most memorable part is, arguably, when you're in a nursery and you see a woman, still alive, trying to cradle her baby, who has visibly transformed. Well, the baby has a yellow, soft belly and if you've played the first game, you'll remember that the yellow areas are weak points prone to explode. You can probably guess what happens to the woman.

The soundtrack is nice but the game really shines when there isn't any music at all. Just the vast void of sound is so profound and the slightest creak will catch you off guard. The sound mixing in this game is done expertly. The graphics are stellar. I mean, I can tell it came out in 2011, but the lighting is so great and the textures on the walls and characters are generally fantastic. All around splendid job on graphics. The level design is done well enough where each chapter has a varied design. I especially loved the zero gravity flying around in space. The vastness of it, and being able to see Saturn in the distance (I'm pretty sure it's Saturn) is just so unique.

Anyway, I feel like I've said enough. Really, fantastic game. Highly recommend.

This expansion has a pretty good campaign. Nothing to say on the story, but the missions and locations themselves are remarkable, especially when you look at them from a historical context. As per usual, the Russian campaign is arguably the most epic in terms of close quarter fighting within the Russian cities. Really, just a great expansion to have to a classic FPS.

Fallout 4 is amazing, but isn't perfect. I think the problem with it mainly lies in the radiant quests that become tiresome after a few times and then annoying shortly after that. Absolutely loved the story, atmosphere, graphics, music, etc, though.

You know, I played Call of Duty 2 years ago before even playing the first one just now. And after the 2nd one, I played 4, WaW, Black Ops, Modern Warfare 2, and I think that's it so far. So I was actually a bit surprised at how similar the British SAS missions were to the SAS missions in the later games. I was expecting a plain and simple war game comparable to the slightly superior Call of Duty 2.

I will say this though, I wish the Russians weren't pegged as the enemies all the time in the new ones as their campaigns in the WWII games always end up being the best, except for the beach invasion in CoD 2, that might be one of the most memorable missions from the WWII games. That said, this is a classic game; one that should be played by all FPS enthusiasts and especially enthusiasts of WWII games. It was a game changer with multiplayer and the anchor in the Call of Duty series; without the success of the first one, it wouldn't be the franchise it is today.

Wonky animations though.

Rockstar manages to take Max Payne where Remedy left off and, in my opinion, surpass the first two games in quality. Obviously, being nine years later, they had plenty of time and more resources to work out new mechanics and animation style, specifically the cover system which was absent in the first two.

The other notable aspect of Max Payne 3 is that the ending isn't as depressing as the first two. The first game already started off depressing due to his family being murdered and the second one involves his downfall as a police officer. Here, Max is a private security guard in Sao Paulos, Brazil, for a rich family. Similar to the first two games, however, a major conspiracy is set in store for Max as he traverses the various parts of Brazil, fighting criminals and paramilitary goons. Without spoiling anything, I will say that the game ends on a high note as you get to see Max, for once in his life, relaxing and content with things.

The strongest aspect of the Max Payne games were always the writing, and the Houser's do Sam Lake justice by writing a brilliant script. The character dialog is strong, the plot is complex but not contrived, and narrative is exhilerating. The major side characters, Raul Passos and Detective Wilson da Silva are interesting due to their own backgrounds. And the flashbacks to New Jersey was a nice throwback with Max's classic outfit and his involvement in destroying the local mafia.

Brilliant game. I'm anxious to know if this is the last in the series, and if it is, what a way to end it. Also, soundtrack. HEALTH did an A+ job on this one.
