Overall a solid 7/10 action adventure - but a far cry from the Role-playing possible in Bioware's own previous works, like Mass Effect or the earlier DA games.

The overall story is competent and interesting, the characters are well crafted, combat flows smoothly and the optimisation is incredible.

Yet, it does fail as an role-playing experience - there are very few "negative" options; and unlike the apex role playing games like The Witcher 3, BG3 or Mass Effect; the protagonist cannot really be a "bad" person. Its very marvel like in its entire approach to the protagonist.

A shame because the most fun part of playing Shepard for instance is being able to pick renegade options while dealing with NPCs we do not like.

I still am hopeful though, as the game does do a lot of things pretty well, but if anyone from Bioware reads this, pretty please let me be evil in my RPGs! Let me kill party members I do not like, or push someone off a cliff because they spoke rudely to me, or be a fantasy racist and call elves names!

Also, give me my in-game blood back please! I want my character drenched in blood after a battle!

Overall, good action adventure, poor RPG, pick it up if you enjoy a game with good combat, Skip if you value role-playing over combat.

Reactive, creative, intelligent, compelling & challenging all at once. Baldur's Gate 3 is not just a great RPG, it raises the bar for what is possible, and should be expected from video games as a whole.

A great game beset by some issues. Bring's back the joy of exploration previously seen in games such as Skyrim and Witcher 3 - and is completely different compared to the typical soulless 'Ubisoft style' open world games.

Great combat, an immersive world and just a fun sandbox.

However, performance in the larger cities is an issue - wait for a few patches if you don't have a super powerful CPU.

Actually keeps getting better the more you play it.

This is one of those games that rewards you for engaging with its systems - but does not force you to.

You can completely ignore ship building.
You can completely ignore outpost building.
You can completely ignore exploring planets on foot.
You can completely ignore exploring space in your ship.
You can completely ignore side content and blitz through the main story in 20 hours.

But you shouldn't because each of those systems contributes massively to the overall experience of the game - they feed into each other and the game only really takes off once the player actually starts engaging with these systems.

None of these are super complex by themselves - but once you explore to find resources to build an outpost that mines resources and is run by NPCs you recruited from side-quests and you use those resources to craft bigger and better ships and weapons which you use to explore further - then you realize you have suddenly spent a dozen hours in the blink of an eye.

With mods this game is going to be just a wild ride for the next decade or more.

This is the closest we are gonna get to a Freelancer sequel anytime soon.

Great gameplay, really interesting ship types and a decent story kept me interested all through.

Strongly recommended to anyone who loves arcade space games and don't wanna spend 5 hours learning how to keep their ship pointed in the right direction.

DOES NOT run well even on my 4090 and i7 12700k machine.

I waited for shaders to compile; so there is no shader compilation stutter but the camera movement is extremely janky and using the keyboard and mouse makes the FPS drop from 120 to 45-50 when I turn the camera.

I could put up with some asset streaming stutter (which is also there despite being on a 6 GBPS PCIe4.0 NVME SSD); but the constant stutter while moving the camera makes it extremely unenjoyable.

Just not a smooth experience at all.

Early Access Review
Would be OK if it was not using a mobile UI on PC.

At 4K the hud covers like 50% of the screen and is incredibly ugly.

Pretty good arcade racer. Handling does not compare to Forza: Horizon but they overall game structure is better than Horizon.

I.e. you wont have 100+ cars after 10 hours of playing; you have a handful of cars that you spend time with, tuning and customizing them to your liking; you feel more attached to the cars you do own. Anything you want to own, you can buy from the shop instead of having to rely on RNG spin to win like Horizon. Money too is primarily earned from races and not determined by how lucky you are at wheelspins.

Online mode is also better than Forza, rammers are present of course but the games physics are less punishing when you get rammed, harder to miss checkpoints just because some idiot used you as the brake. Not to mention it does not have the Forza problem of 2-5 min loading screens between each race. A much more smoother online experience overall.

It is missing some things compared to Heat, e.g. no cop chases in online mode; and definitely has more than can be done in many areas, but overall a better game than Heat and is much more charming with a bunch of likeable characters!

PSA; extremely CPU heavy, even more than Cyberpunk or Metro Exodus EE with RT on. At the moment its not possible to maintain above 60 FPS consistently. If you are sensitive to frame drops; hold off for now.

Of course the exception is if you have an overkill CPU like the 5900x or 12700k or better.

(NOTE, my specs are 8700K, with a RTX 3080, 32 GB of 3200 Mhz RAM, 3.5 GBPS NVME SSD; the FPS fluctuates from 120 all the way down to 45 FPS even with RT off and DLSS on Pefromance @ 4K)

Ignore the forums full of crybabies, most of whom have not even played the game (check their accounts ROFL)

This is a good game; great parkour, fun combat, amazing atmosphere.

The character and story are also really unexpectedly good! I really care about them and want to see what happens further in the story.

The character growth curve is also very compelling and I am enjoying unlocking all the combat and parkour moves.

Have encountered almost no bugs and the performance is pretty decent except for an occassional memory leak.

Overall a very solid entry in the franchise; a solid 8/10 that will get better with future patches and updates!
