The older I get the more I like the mainline Shin Megami Tensei games, and the less I like the Persona games. The hard mode was the best feeling for me, it starts pretty brutal until you get into the swing of things. That brutality is part of what I like about these games. Most jrpgs you can kinda just turn your brain off, that's not really the case here. You can die extremely quickly to regular enemies. For me that's part of the charm, the world feels about as dangerous as it should be.

The story is fine. It clearly tries to tie itself back to Nocturne a lot, probably cause that's the one most people are familiar with. Do yourself a favor and take the girls hand because the original version of this games story feels unfinished. The stories in main series games have always been more about set pieces and themes. The characters have never been super strong in my opinion, but at least in the new version there are characters.

I don't really like the big open maps all that much, but they look pretty good. It's just kinda tedious to run across them after a while. This game is also probably hornier than the main series has ever been, and I'm not just talking about Mara. This can be a good or bad thing depending on who you are, I just found it kinda distracting but if you love waifus they're everywhere.
