Gameplay is a good mix between Arma 3 and RS2, a lot of the "realism" of arma, with a lot less of the clunk. The only thing lacking right now is air vehicles, but otherwise this is a very fleshed out experience. The modding community, while not as big as arma, is there, and the mods are interesting and fun to play, along with an assortment of custom maps.
I've heard a lot about the recent update, and how it makes the gameplay more "casual". As I just bought the game for $12 on the humble bundle, having never played the game before the update, I cannot speak on how it changes gameplay.
