If you've dabbled in colony sims or game such as Civilization, or Banished, this is a must. You'll find yourself attached to colonists, which is great and awful, considering death awaits them all. Once you come to grips with the intricacies of work priorities, organization, scheduling, researching and menuing, you'll realize you've spent 60 hours and, hey, you might actually make it to the stars someday - and I don't think the story ends there.

Between that red letter day and now are many deaths, some of whom you'll mourn, including colonists who only joined your faction after attacking you in a raid, becoming immobilized and imprisoned and eventually won over, who become an important part of your ecosystem, who fall in love, get married, and die tragically to ancient cryogenically frozen spacefarers you woke up accidentally. It really is a story simulator, it might even be worthwhile to write down your stories as a remembrance.

And this is from a noob to the game. I'm only now realizing that with different scenarios, starting biomes, the endless variances of settings you can torture yourself with, RimWorld is a very special video game.
