I b*tch slapped a gryphon wind god with my bird wing so hard it exploded and dropped a gecko that shoots fireballs.

can't recommend it in it's current state. it has potential, but the bugs ruin the experience.

a few examples:

-a simple client desync can lead to losing all of the end game equipment you had on your person.

- your shield either works or it doesnt. you will be killed through it sometimes, and sometimes you can't attack because it's stuck in the defending position according to the server.

- animals are extremely aggressive and chase the player for as long as they can keep up. some of these creatures can strike multiple times with no way to avoid their attacks because server latency says they hit you before you reacted.

- greifers in pve will attempt to block off important areas simply because they can and there's nothing you can do about it

- npc behavior is jerky and erratic because of latency. they will teleport, rubberband, and strike you through walls.

- clan system is easily abuseable and completely predatory.

again, this game has alot of potential, and if these bugs didn't exist it would be wonderful. however, as it stands right now, it's not worth the frustration of losing several weeks worth of work just because the server decides to forget where you are

to be fair, most of these bugs can be attributed to serverside latency issues. the game works nearly flawlessly in singleplayer. sometimes it functions better. there are some minor issues related to foundations dissappearing when logging out away from home, but that's minor compares to the headache inducing frustration of the online component.

i've had more fun with this game in 70 something hours than i've had in TF2 since 2009

yes there are some bugs, yes there are some balance issues at the moment, and yes some champions must be unlocked through in game currency which you acquire through leveling available characters.

but you owe it to yourself to at least try this one.

it's free to play, and not pay to win.

tl:dr it's like half-life, but on mars.

the game feels more frustrating than it should be (on hard difficulty) not sure if it's hit detection or what, but most of my damage output felt inoncistent. sometimes i would 1 shot imps with a shotgun and sometimes i'd empty entire magezines to no avail.

the enemy ai is rock stupid consisting of only charging your position be it with guns, hellfire, w/e, and any hitscan weapons they use are nearly 100% accurate so there's no chance you'll be dodging anything that isn't a projectile.

however, the enemy types are extremely varied and numerous which forces you to pick the right weapon for the situation. every encounter feels like a pop quiz of "which weapon is most effective against this enemy" and i think this is where the enjoyment can be found. i never felt like i was killed from something unfair becuase if you pick the right weapon for the right enemy, you can survive anything.

the campaign was much longer than i expected and it was for the most part a logical progression. the character you play known only as "the marine" is your standard emotionless silent protagonist who is transferred the a mars base as security. your day starts off normal until you walk for a while and everything goes batsh*t crazy. (sound familair?) when the game finally picks up you're constantly being barked at to move faster by your CO who apparenly isn't dealing with the limitless demons that you are because he has plenty of time to tell you to pick up the pace.

the game isn't terrible by any means, but it has very little personalty to it. nameless marine fights nameless demons who are being controlled by obvious badguy.

i'd suggest picking this up on sale, but other than that, it's not worth full price

it's like counter-strike only you can hit what you're aiming at without the artificial difficulty of spray patterns
