I have been gaming since 1990, and to not say that Vermintide 2 is easily among the top 10 co-op games on steam would be a disservice to how good this game is right now.

I started playing when the Winds of Magic expansion came out and idk what drama took place before hand but every time I come back after I take a break for 3-4 months I see nothing but improvements-
Improvements in video performance & FPS all around, making DirectX12 run nearly as smoothly as DirectX11 even on older rigs.
Rebalances in difficulty, spawn mechanics, AI and level design.  Legendary difficulty and finals get progressively harder and even a little bit tactical and actually really fun now instead of a brutal grind for black armor that I was avoiding.
Overhaul of all the different characters, skill tree, weapon mechanics and damage so they are easier to use (vs playing the piano) and fun to use and fill a niche instead of just one or two being obviously better than the rest
You don't need to own the DLC to purchase cosmetics any more, now you just play the game.

BUT WHAT IS THIS GAME? (A first person GOLDEN AXE?)

Game play wise it's sort of like Left4Dead (4 player co-op vs AI/bots/hoard. Players exploring & combating through levels that are slightly maze-ish, collecting items/power ups/health kits along the way to help them progress.  Levels take about 30 min on average to complete.) Except Vermintide II is set in the Warhammer (pre40K) universe and comes with a hardcore medieval fantasy like theme as well as Skyrim-ish combat mechanics (there are guns and magic too)
But what sets this game apart for me is that it attention to detail.  They made this game extremely lore friendly to the Warhammer universe and it is fleshed out and done so frickin' well, and in such a diverse and colorfully gritty and epic way. You will always be noticing something new or unlocking secrets that you did not before, especially the DLC levels.
The voice acting is top notch and greatly helps flush out the Warhammer lore and universe, especially in the different characters personalities.  They really help set the tone and gets me in the mood to purge heresy.
The characters you are playing will verbally interact with other players/characters in the keep and on the battlefield with each other. Depending on their HP and combat situation they will say a boat load of different things.  Some even don't really like each other and will insult each other even if about to die. There must be hundreds of lines of scripted dialog via voice acting and it really helps bind the co-op experience together when you are all bickering with each other before and after combat.

MEAT & POTATOES

There are 5 different characters, with 3 sub classes each.  Each character can access about a half a dozen(give or take) melee weapons specifically for that character, and about a half a dozen ranged weapons as well.
Some weapons are even class specific, like only the dwarf barb can use 2 axes at once, only rangers can use bows, etc.  With all the different characters and weapons and cosmetics coupled with the enemy AI director changing the location of enemy patrol routes or where the boss spawns or what not, you will never play the same game twice.
You mainly unlock everything just by playing the game and leveling and beating the game with various characters on various difficulties.  I have literally only mashed quick play and have almost unlocked everything without even knowing what I am doing really.
Every DLC comes with new levels and a new weapon per character (besides the Grail Knight DLC).You don't even need to own the DLC to play the levels if your buddy has it and is hosting.
The community is positive and helpful and will show you where all the secrets/achievements/unlocks are.
There is even post end game content though Deeds and Weaves which is basically a random level generator if you already memorized everything lol. (Winds of Magic DLC only)

PERFORMANCE

My rig is about 6 years old and it still runs great on it at about 75-95 FPS
devils canyons i7-4790K cpu overclocked to 4.6
geforce GTX 970 overclocked to a little quicker than GTX 980
16gig o fast ram
z97 mobo
I run the visual graphics settings on Extreme with the exception of volumetric fog turned down to medium and get an average of 75-95FPS, with only it dropping down to 60 on very specific places, like the Castle Drachenfels closing gate hallway maze thing at the end of the level.

This is the best game you never heard of until a steam sale randomly shoves it in your face.  Then after buying it you will wonder why you never heard of it before because ITS SO FREAKING GOOD .  Then won't play anything else for the rest of the month. True story bro.
