📜 FNAF Lore Summary (FNaF 1 – Security Breach Era)
For all who don't know: In the FNAF story, William Afton and Henry Emily opened a restaurant called Fredbear's Family Diner in the early 70s, which quickly developed into a restaurant chain called "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza." This was founded in 1983 by Fazbear Entertainment, Inc. At some point, both left the company, and an unknown person took over the position of CEO.

William was secretly a serial killer who lured, abducted, and murdered children in mascot costumes. His motives are unknown, but it is generally assumed that he sought to achieve immortality by researching the paranormal, cursed metal (known as Remnant) that he created through the murders. His first victim was Charlotte Emily, Henry's daughter. She became The Puppet, a spirit who looked after the other lost souls and helped them awaken.

In 1983, William's younger son, the Crying Child (BV), also died in an accident known as the Bite of '83, caused by his older son Michael. The fate of the BV remains unsolved to this day. However, it is often speculated that he is either connected to Golden Freddy (an enigmatic yellow bear) or helps Charlie save other souls. "I will put you back together" were the last words a controversial person said to BV (usually theorized to be William, Charlie, or Golden Freddy).

In 1985, William killed two children, and three others were later linked to this incident (the so-called Missing Children Incident, MCI). He was arrested but released due to lack of evidence. Four of these children (Gabriel, Susie, Little Jeremy, and Fritz) are henceforth said to have possessed Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, respectively, with Susie presumably being the first to die. It is generally assumed that the fifth child was named Cassidy and became the main haunting force within Golden Freddy, although some believe it was someone else.

In 1987, William posed as a security guard at a new pizzeria and killed five more children (DCI), who later became the Toy Animatronics. This led to the insignificant Bite of '87.

In 1993, Mike worked a shift at the original, allegedly haunted Freddy's. Later the same year, the store closed, and the company went bankrupt. He subsequently had nightmares about it and the death of his brother, which were probably paranormal. At some point, William went to this original Freddy's to destroy the four cursed robots, but ghosts appeared. Fearing for his life, he put on the costume he had used to kill them. However, it was a hybrid of a costume and a robot (Springlock Suit), and due to the leaky roof, the mechanism collapsed and killed him. He henceforth haunted the suit/corpse (Springtrap).

While Freddy's existed, a sister location called Circus Baby's Pizza World opened. It served as a cover for William to kill more children; the robots there were programmed to abduct them. However, the plan went wrong when his daughter, Elizabeth Afton, sneaked in to see Baby and was killed in the process. She then possessed Circus Baby. William, desperate, had her and the other Funtime Animatronics locked away in an underground rental facility (Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental). The other robots were also haunted in some way, likely by melted-down Remnant from the MCI.

Years later, William sent Mike there to find Elizabeth. Mistaking him for William, Elizabeth tricked him, and the Funtime Animatronics merged into a single tangle of wires, Ennard. Ennard killed Mike using the Scooper and used his corpse as a protective suit to escape. Mike quickly decomposed, and Ennard had to flee into the sewers. Thanks to the Remnant, however, Mike's soul gained possession of his corpse (Immortal Michael).

About 30 years after his death (presumably 2023), William was found by Phone Dude, who stole him and built him into his cheap horror attraction, Fazbear's Fright, without knowing that William was inside the robot (Springtrap). After a few nights, the building burned down, and William escaped. The good ending of the game, where Charlie frees the other ghosts, has a canonicity described by Scott (the creator of FNaF) as "complicated." Mike also had a security Survival Logbook at some point, where two ghosts, BV and presumably Cassidy, talked about something.

After about 50 years, Henry reappeared and opened a fake pizzeria (Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator/FNaF 6), where he summoned the remaining Funtime Animatronics (now separated into Scrap Baby, Molten Freddy, and Lefty) and William Afton (Scraptrap). He also built a robot, Lefty, that captured Charlie (The Puppet). Mike came and succeeded in salvaging them. Henry incinerated them all and himself, revealing that high temperatures effectively destroy Remnant/Agony. Fazbear Entertainment, Inc. was allegedly closed for good.

But one vengeful spirit, most likely Golden Freddy (Cassidy), was not ready to release William. Cassidy held him and tormented him with terrible nightmares in the infinite purgatory known as Ultimate Custom Night (UCN).

After all this, Fazbear Entertainment was resurrected as Fazbear Entertainment, LLC. They hired a man to develop fictionalized FNAF games within the FNAF universe. Later, a VR game (FNAF VR: Help Wanted) was developed, and suspicious circuits were scanned in the process, creating a paranormal, digital entity called Glitchtrap. He appears as a man in Spring Bonnie, acts exactly like William, knows things only William knows, and claims to be back (William's motto is: "I always come back").

Glitchtrap manages to possess a beta tester and make her his accomplice, Vanny. Vanessa (Vanny) then got an office job at Fazbear Entertainment. The Fazbear Funtime Service program was hijacked by Glitchtrap and made hostile, forcing Vanessa to send a data packet with himself to the current pizzeria – Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex.

The current book series (Tales from the Pizzaplex), which is most likely canonical, reveals an AI called Mimic1 that replicates actions. Many believe that Glitchtrap is a digital manifestation of the Mimic's programming, copying William. An Endoskeleton infected with the Mimic1 programming was discovered beneath the simulated Freddy's (the FNaF 6 location). There is also the boy Gregory, who was linked to Glitchtrap and hacked the Pizzaplex for unknown reasons.

In Security Breach (presumably 2035), Gregory, no longer under Glitchtrap's control, had to flee the Pizzaplex with the help of Glamrock Freddy (who is most likely possessed by someone, possibly the Crying Child). In one ending (The Burn Trap Ending), Greg found a newly built Springtrap (likely the Mimic in a suit) in the simulated Freddy's location and fought him. Down there, there is also a huge, monstrous structure of wires resembling the Funtime amalgam, often called The Blob or Tangle, which attacked this William/Mimic. ⠀⠀
