I've used this game engine since the release of 3.0 and you can't really say anything bad about it. It's completely free, open-source and the engine itself is one of the best ones out there. Not only it's good for people that have little programming background, it's also excellent for those that have detailed expertise.

I'm now currently migrating my projects to Godot 4.4 and it's been amazing! If you want to start in game development, Godot is the among your best options out there!

Darkwood is THE Darkest Survival Horror experience you'll ever get! I must say though, even on the Normal difficulty, Darkwood is damn hard, especially those bastards from the Swamp (and those f banshees). Heavily reminds me of "Nowhere" and the "Darkest Fear" series of Rovio (before they made Angry Birds). As one of those 90's "gamers", I found top-down/old-school overhead games more compelling and immersive than the more recent first/3rd person perspective.

Darkwood is deeply atmospheric and the experience is just nerve-wracking most of the time. The game has a day and night cycle but it almost feels like there's barely any difference at all; during the day you'll be exploring the woods to get supplies like wood to barricade your house or gasoline to power the generator and in the process, you'll encounter monsters that can't be dealt with easily; during the night, you'll just be on your house, in that wood corner until monsters start breaking your barricades or some other damned ♥♥♥♥ (called "night events"). Apart from that, the lore and visuals are just perfect on Darkwood. You won't see that Silent Hill or Resident Evil vibe from it, it's like those Fatal Frame games; "pure horror" based on real culture. The story does feel inspired by real-life but twisted in a way that can be barely noticeable and in a way that you won't make you question reality like some SCP ♥♥♥♥. The story itself is dynamic, and there's a lot of ways to progress depending on your choices, similar to those Tell Tale games like The Wolf Among Us.

If you're a casual gamer, I'll warn you that Darkwood is literally unforgiving (you'd read that on the loading screens). But I'll still recommend this, especially if you're looking for a unique, unsettling and unforgettable experience!!
