Wow. Just wow man. After 40 hours of playing and getting 1 of the endings I can safely say this game is a masterpiece from the very beginning all the way to the end. It does a really good job of getting you hooked on the game right off the bat with its story, characters, art style and combat system that I wished more people would take a look into before labeling it as a hollow knight clone/rip-off, when they are fundamentally different products that share some similarities. Welp, it doesn't matter. I will now list all the stuff at I liked, disliked and things I had mixed opinions about in this game.

Pros

- The first aspect of the game that caught my eye was of course the art style , and needless to say it is both gorgeous and can be gruesome at times in a good way and I think it makes it unique;
- Nine sols is one of the few that manages to engage me with its very intriguing story making me want to play more of it just to figure out what's gonna happen after each twist. I also really like this game's take on religion and the different perspectives of every character;
- Speaking about character, the protagonist, called Yi, is probably one of my favorites ever. He starts off as mysterious individual in his dying moments being saved by some unknown entity right after he was shown being injured by an elder. He will be awakened from this coma thanks to a kid called Shuanshuan (he's of a different race compared to Yi) who is playing the flute, and that will remind Yi of someone important to him while hearing the music. After this initial cutscene they will start living and sharing good times together, up until a major event that will momentarily separate them. As this event unfolds, Yi will begin to show his true colors and intentions, as he is talking about revenge and a plan of action with an old acquaintance of his. Throughout the story you will eventually get to the bottom of his anger and fears making him a complex and well written character in my opinion;
- But he's not the only well written character, I think this game really shines more when it comes to side characters , villains and their bond with the main character as the story progresses. The development of each and every single one of them feels so real and genuine, they are so unbelievably fun to talk to and the quests/sidequests are overall a blast to complete. Very memorable characters;
- But enough of this, let's talk about the gameplay. At first the combat system may feel a little repetitive and bland with just a parry and attack button, but trust me this system will quickly become more complex letting you be able to strategize in more clever way during a fight against mini bosses and bosses. The skill tree and abilities that will be unlocked are cool and will make the fighting feel a lot better;
- Although I have some criticism about this upcoming aspect which I will talk about later in the cons, I have seriously enjoyed the level design of each area/biome having different gimmicks. Also navigating through the entire world map felt satisfying and again making it feel realistic;
- The soundtrack of this game was beautifully crafted, despite not having as many bangers as I would have hoped, I still think without it the lack of atmosphere would have drastically harmed the experience. And as well as the soundtrack, the sound design is just top notch;
- To end the positives for this game I will have to go with enemies and Bosses ; Nine sols may not have the largest enemy variety but the fact they are fun and challenging to fight honestly makes up for it. What can I say about the bosses? Well they are very well designed, for the most part they feel fair to fight and as villains throughout the game you may wonder why they do not act a certain way as you defeat more of them, but by the end of the game you will come to realize they are all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy lmao.

Mixed thoughts

- During cutscenes sometimes you will have to choose among some dialog options to continue the conversations, however, besides a couple of moments for the achievements, it doesn't feel like there is any impact or consequence for whatever you choose to say making it a pretty useless feature;
- The next feature makes more sense gameplay-wise but it still slightly somewhat underwhelming. I'm talking about the Jade system : if you explore well enough you will find these jades that can be equipped at any resting point where they will consume specific slots, they can give different advantages going from being able to collect gold from a wider distance or advantages related to the combat helping you create a different strategy for fighting tougher enemies. Unfortunately I have never really cared about this system, as none of the jades were good enough for me to equip them aside from a few. I don't see this as a big deal but I hoped it would be more interesting.

Cons

- This game's flaws aren't something very major but still they are kind of a problem. The first one being enemy attack animation and hitboxes , sometimes the animations will be too fast to react to forcing you to kind of memorize the timings on some attacks making it less fun. And on top of this you will from time to time get hit by some attacks when you are out of range or have already dodged because of the hitbox being way too big;
- The second and last flaw as I mentioned earlier has got to do with the exploration. And by that I'm talking about the fact that you don't really have a choice on where to go and where to explore next, it is just very linear while this genre's most symbolic trait is the freedom it gives to the player with many ways to go. Sadly exploring the area itself too isn't very rewarding holding little to no secrets. And with that ends my thoughts on the game.

Hooooly man have I yapped a lot xD. But seriously if you're a fan of this genre, Nine sols is a must play. I can't stress enough how genuinely fun this experience was. Despite some shortcomings, the game is still a banger. It's definitely one of my games of the year and above a 9/10 for sure.
