I'm a big fan of 80's/90's arcade culture and thought that modernizing it a bit made for a great concept! Unfortunately, the game fell flat of my expectations.

I've only played Ashley's romance route at this time, but based on a few other reviews, it's safe to say that the shallow writing is consistent no matter who you spend your time with. I'm also glad someone else pointed out how odd some of the stereotypes were with romance options and npcs alike. Pacing is a huge problem when you get to the latter chapters as well, as we meet too many people in too little time near immediately after the romance scenarios. It's cluttered and flows very poorly, it all feels forcefully strung together.

And, for a more personal gripe, I am not a fan of the Polybius plot. I tried to shake it off the first time around, but the ending...? Why do we need this? It's touched on for one chapter and then loops back around, I'll assume it has influence in the sequel too but I just don't care for bringing decades-old urban legends into a story that didn't reference them until midway through.

Will I pick up the sequel if I see it on sale? Honestly, yeah. But this one? I can't say I'd recommend it to anyone, no. I wish I could've loved it, but it wasn't the game I hoped for.

I'm not one for "cozy games" usually, but Webfishing is so much fun! It's a super cute game that's even more fun in groups :) An absolute steal for the price!
