6 May 24: And Sony has backtracked from the asinine requirement of PSN linking. So, I'm back to just having fun playing the game. While this experience will certainly leave a bad taste in my mouth for anything Sony related on PC, I hope that this gives the developers some fuel to keep doing what they're doing without Sony getting in the way.

4 May 24: Helldivers 2 is currently experiencing an influx of negative reviews. Is it deserved? Indeed. People bought Helldivers 2 in regions where a PSN account is unavailable, and with this change they will no longer be able to play the game. And while I'm not in an affected region, I am old enough to remember various Sony breaches that resulted in damages to consumers.

Switching my review to negative due to a decision that hurts consumers. This is a bad choice, and it's disappointing.

Original Review:

Alright, updating my review now that the servers are running somewhat smoothly again.

Helldivers 2 is basically the closest we've gotten to a good Starship Troopers game, ever. And yes, I know there's Starship Troopers Extermination - but it's nowhere near as entertaining as this is.

Single Player: Unlike the original Helldivers you can actually play this solo pretty effectively. As you level up and unlock new strategems, you become a better player and can really deliver some freedom.

With Friends: Oh, with friends this is quite simply a blast. You can coordinate with each other on tasks, split up duties, save each other from certain doom.. Or drop an orbital strike in the immediate area and complain to each other about how communication should be better.

With Random players: Hit or miss. Currently you have a good chance of being griefed by anyone you join where you'll be kicked before you join Pelican 1, which just sucks absolute terminid sack. But usually you're going to meet some cool folks and have a great time.
