It has some frustrating bits, but overall, it's good for a free to play game.

This game scratches a simple itch.

Turn Based Eldritch Fantasy Strategic combat with fantastic narration, sound track, and art.
Inventory management and hard decision making.
Steep but reasonable learning curve through a mix of tutorials and trial-and-error.

Buying this game is buying every tabletop game. For $10. That you can play online or in person with split screen. 10/10

The publisher of this game, Take-Two, removed support for most mods by giving the mod team behind OpenIV a Cease and Desist letter. The mod team couldn't deal with the legality of things and gave up ending support for their tool for modding.

This was a bad decision. Unless this is somehow overturned, such hostile actions towards fair use and freedom can only compel me to give this game a negative review to show my dissatisfaction with the publisher.

Rockstar could make this right, I'm sure.

See comment:

"Rockstar has rescinded the Cease and Desist letter to the OpenIV crew and OpenIV is back.

I have changed my recommendation accordingly."

This edition of the game is the most up to date one with all the DLC/changes offered from digital versions.

It's a typical old school Japanese turn based Role Playing game, similar to Tactics Ogre or Final Fantasy: Tactics.

The story is pretty average with some good highlights, and generally over the top (something Disgaea as a series is known for).

Expect to grind a lot if you want to play the entire game as the main story only requires level 100 or so to beat, but max level is 9,999 and you can reincarnate up to 200 times with it still affecting your stats.

Overall, I deeply enjoyed this game for what it was and it's story has a special place in my heart.

Early Access Review
This game, even though it's Early Access, is so much fun. Reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing for the N64.

It's very well made so far. The environments are imaginative for both high flying and low-to-the-ground dog fights.

The weapons & planes are all varied. It almost has a MOBA theme to it with Crowd Control weapons, among other things.

I haven't enjoyed a game this much in a long time. 10/10 just on enjoyment and being well made.
