Mafia The Old Country harkens back to a prior generation (or two). One that we never get to see anymore due to inflated budgets and expectations. It's brave they got this out of the door, and I do worry about its reception - evident by some reviews here. It almost needs a disclaimer: "This isn't call of duty". The story moves slow and lets you bide your time in the exceptionally crafted world. Market stands beautiful decorated and everywhere is fully furnished and impressive. However, there's no impetus to go and view it. In that way, it's just like Mafia 1 & 2. The open world is just a backdrop for an otherwise linear story. Nothing on the map, no outposts to discover.

The gameplay is fun, though simple, but it ticks enough boxes with enough action set pieces to keep it moving. The story is well considered and executed. A gangster romp with the perspective all the way zoomed in to just a few interesting characters. The Don is especially well performed.

I really enjoyed what this game is, and especially what this game isn't. If you're still happy with games akin to Mafia 1 & 2 you will enjoy this. I fully recommend it, especially to support this type of release.

Ran well on both Bazzite & Windows.

Interesting blend between XCOM and Company of Heroes. Worth a play.

One of the best games in 2024, by far. Played it on the PS5. Runs really well via this demo, however the demo quest story had a few bugs in it not found in the full game.

A fantastic game that really captures the essence of what makes the Indiana series so fun.

After a race or two of this, I go back to Forza Horizon. Just to feel clean.
The handling model is so frustrating. The defaults ensure that if you hit a bump and start randomly over-steering, there is no way of correcting it. Some adjustments make sure you have a slight more chance, but you never really get there. You'll start over-steering and/or go into the drift mode for no real logical reason.
The game tries to split the difference between simcade and arcade and gets no benefit from either category. That would be my ultimate recommendation to developers here - pick one. There is no fun to be had in this wish washy middle-ground.
Also the 60 fps lock is a real harm to the games iq.
