Finally abandoning my 2264 hour profile because Linux support was dropped years ago. Sadly that includes all my avatar borders, paint finishes, import and black market items, and of course my 'Est. 2015' tag. Heroic Launcher is the way to go if you're on Linux.

I love this game. Fallout purists might prefer New Vegas, 3, or even the originals, and those are all amazing games for sure. I would definitely say that at least New Vegas is better than this game overall (despite its aged visuals.) I think they were going for a definitive, modern, Fallout game with this one. It really has that immersive quality you would hope for with an RPG. Despite the praise, it has many, many, flaws that are disappointing when it could easily be the BEST of all time with some minor changes. Luckily, mods are a thing. The issue that gets me the most is the engine doesn't really support monitor refresh rates above 60. Sometimes the quests bug out, and you might have to look up walkthroughs for things that you shouldn't have to. Far Harbor is the only worthwhile DLC. The pros, however, would be a list far too long for me to write here. It really is a great game.

I've played Fallout 4 a good amount and this game is just Fallout 4 but worse. I'm not saying that just to ♥♥♥♥ on the game like everyone did when it launched. I avoided 76 on release after hearing about the major bugs and all the other bad stuff. I recently gave this game a genuine few hours of play just hoping that it would be fun. I didn't like it. I'm sure many folks would appreciate the MMO aspect of this game but I found myself constantly wishing that it was just a single player experience. Many gameplay aspects that veteran Fallout players have come to enjoy/expect just don't exist in this game (like pausing.) During my playthrough I randomly came across a couple players that were obviously much higher level than me and they gave me a ton of fusion cells. At first I was happy because up until that point I was just scrounging for any ammo I could find. But after a while I felt like I had basically cheated the game which really took me out of the Fallout experience. Yeah sure, it was a random encounter and they didn't kill me which was good, but that was only the beginning of minor annoyances revolving around playing an MMO that I would have preferred just being single player. A few months ago I played New Vegas pretty heavily and it's sad that fans got this instead of a remaster of that game... It's that good. Bethesda, please do a remaster or complete remake of Fallout 3, New Vegas, or 4.

EDIT -- I just noticed that they leave developer responses on tons of negative reviews for this game. I think they have a dedicated team for leaving these somewhat copy-pasta, bot-like type of responses. One of the recent ones said something like, "we hope you will give us a second chance and play Fallout Shelter again." That's an L, lmao.
Didn't want my first review to be too long-winded but I guess that ship sailed. The other (negative) reviews kinda nailed it with reasons to avoid this title. But here's my slightly extended thoughts anyway, coming from a Fallout fan.

1. Once you leave the starting vault and actually see the Appalachian wilderness for the first time the game will slam you with the fact that it's an MMO. And it hits like a ton of bricks. There are events, nuke drops, server maintenance and downtime, and when you go to open your pip boy to heal you will realize that your foes will still be attacking you. Better make sure your healing items are set to favorite. A hugely common criticism of the game is that it shouldn't be forced always online, and Bethesda's response to this is that you CAN play it like it's single player! As long as you pay your annual $100 subscription!!! Or, someone that has a heavy wallet invites you to their game. You can play Fallout 3 today, a game released in 2008, with no concern that a dying player base and lack of server maintenance will cause it to become unplayable. What are the future plans for this one? Even today, good luck feeling like you can grow your base and really explore to your hearts content. There's a hard capped limit to your storage. So you can't really loot everything and hoard stuff. To the people saying that you should just get rid of stuff you don't really need, lol, I'm not doing that. And of course, Bethesda says you can always pay a subscription to get rid of that limit. Talk about pay to play... Plus, don't bother trying to build a legit camp, the next day someone else will have that spot and you'll need to set it up again somewhere else. A recent negative review was written by a player that had well over 3000 hours, saying their progress was essentially wiped by a recent update. Not sure exactly what happened, certainly does NOT instill confidence in the product.

2. The Atomic Shop bothers me. It's an interesting concept, and one could argue a necessity in a modern day MMO. Guess what, everything is overpriced. I won't say too much about it, but other reviewers certainly have. Don't know for sure, but I believe you can buy rare and legendary weapons/armor. Bethesda says: but you can't get any competitive advantage from the Atomic Shop!!! Okay, still, pay-to-win vibes no doubt.

3. You can't see the map from the pip boy. Seems pretty minor, right? It goes against my intuition and hundreds of hours of muscle memory from the previous entries. It took me far too long to break that habit. Bonus: you have to pay caps to fast travel. Bad.

4. You have food and hydration meters to account for. Naturally you will want to stock up on food and drinks, but you have to continuously monitor their condition so you can consume them before they spoil. Might as well carry them everywhere right? It's like the game taunts you to spend lots of extra time in the pip boy, where you are much more vulnerable to hostile attacks. As far as I know you cannot craft any food or drink items that don't spoil. Another minor complaint but it all adds up.

Alright I gotta stop because I want to play Fallout 3 now. Thanks.

Responsive controls, satisfying movement physics, engaging gameplay, short but sweet story.

I started off enjoying this. During the first few hours of gameplay there is a solid feeling of progression. But I have gotten to a point in the game that just feels very grindy. Like other idle games, you can reset your progress and gain better stats, but for me there doesn't seem to be much impact in doing that. Seems very unbalanced. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not interested in browsing forums or discords to learn the proper way to play an idle game. I'd rather learn over time. Not the worst game ever and it's free so you can't really hate it, but I've lost interest.

I've had a good time playing rally on this game. You are encouraged to drive perfectly by your sponsors but you can also get XP by driving fearlessly. I don't have a wheel setup and driving with a controller leaves a lot to be desired, but this game does it pretty good. Rally is the only worthwhile mode, they really missed the mark with freeplay and joyride. Good game.

I am on my 3rd playthrough of Mad Max. The feeling of being a badass/maniac driving through the wasteland and beating Scrotus' hordes to an absolute pulp is great. Upgrades really feel worth their price in scrap. Progression is well paced for any type of play-style. Building up strongholds and taking down camps have huge benefits.
The story is decent, however, toward the end you may not agree with the decisions of Max, especially if you've played the game and already know what happens.
The endgame is just a bit disappointing, with not much to do besides finish off what is left of locations/encounters or get achievements. Wasteland encounters are repetitive, and you can't skip that dialogue for some reason. Getting large amounts of scrap for late game upgrades can feel too grindy. One way to get lots of scrap is within a storm. I have collected 8 muthaloot boxes in one storm (and I know it's possible to get more) and each box has 3 pieces of scrap. The base amount of scrap you get from each piece is 100, but with an upgraded volition ability you will get even more. So with enough skill I'm sure you can get more than 3000 scrap from a single storm. Problem is that you can get one-shotted with full health and the best jacket by a flying piece of steel. This is usually what happens to me after getting a few boxes, either I get sniped by debris, or lightning will kill me. Survivability of a storm seems completely random.
Having said all that, the pros outweigh the cons. First off, while the combat may feel finicky at times, it is extremely satisfying. The shotgun really adds that wild west feeling. Lining up a few grunts and taking them out with one blast is fun. I was never disappointed to find enemies, because there are lots of different ways to take them out. Beating the hell out of 'em is the best way to do it though. Despite the world being desolate the different locations have their own distinct visual styles. Driving like a suicidal maniac never gets old. The upgrades keep you invested in the magnum opus, with each of them greatly adding to the madness. You will want to get the Big Chief as much as Max does by the time you can. Chumbucket, as wacky and paranoid as he is, makes a great side kick throughout the game. You can't help but love his character. The weaponry on the magnum opus feels solid, with the harpoon for taking down towers, gates, enemies, etc. The thunderpoon adds that explosion factor to long range attacks. The sniper rifle can easily strip away perimeter defenses from a distance. Side burners can take out a heavily armored vehicle in seconds. The game does a pretty good job of letting you do what you want to do. The voice acting, sound design, visuals, gameplay, it's near flawless. I could keep going on about what makes this game so amazing, but just buy it. Thanks.

It's good. Seeing that the dev is still releasing updates I will put down some suggestions for the future. I would love to see more in-depth crashes such as craters formed from high speed collisions and better explosions with pieces of the craft flying out. The craft should have a longer flame when boosting. Boost should have a little 'kick' rather than a steady ramp up. A vector styled version of the graphics would be much more visually appealing, given that it is in black and white anyway. Or at least perfect pixels. It would be cool to see some kind of story mode where you can upgrade your rocket and you have to do different types of missions. Maybe a level builder with more obstacles and gravity types (like custom zones and strengths, or reverse).
This game has had a good life for an indie title and it's already addicting and fun, so any of these ideas added would simply be a bonus! And for a dollar it has great content and quality. Thanks to the dev!

I think the title is a bit lazy, but beside that this program is very well made. The UI was very intuitive and everything worked as expected. I have been looking for something like this for free for a long time for a simple project, but nothing else was as useful as this one. I ended up using it to make my profile picture. I'm sure that I will use this here and there for random projects.

This game is extremely hard to play, but it is also extremely satisfying if you like to master perfectly timed controller inputs.
