tl;dr: Game good, reviews bad, play it

I will never understand how so many people seem to dislike this game. Several of the common complaints I see are things that I would consider positives.
-Simplistic art style:
Self explanatory, the simple art style adds to the atmosphere imo but you already know what you're getting based on the store page.
-Short:
For me at least, the small length of the game allows for much more familiarity and skill, especially considering the game's brutal difficulty and multiple endings. It also makes the game much more ideal for speedrunning.
-Game hard:
That's the point. You're trying to slowly improve your personal skills each time instead of having any permanent progression.
-Buggy:
I honestly can't comment on this one, as in my over 10 hours of play I've never encountered any bugs.

One issue I could potentially see is how heavily the game relies on RNG. You'll have to become incredibly familiar with all of the items in the game to have a good chance at success, so if you aren't a fan of that idea then the game might not be for you.

The only other real issue I can think of is that the game's achievements are absurdly difficult. The majority are ones that you'll earn naturally by playing, but the last few require insane amounts of time and luck. The worst of these, Put The Devs to Shame, requires you to effectively get a speedrun time (under 8:30 with the WR sitting within a minute of that time).

Overall I would completely recommend this, as it's one of my favorite games.
