Bought this game back in early access when I was heavily into DnD. Played it, was alright, then didnt touch it till launch cuz I didnt play any DnD cuz of the pandemic and lost interest. Now it looks like Im gonna be dusting off my die sets because of it. This game is everything you can expect from DnD and Larian knocked it out of the park and after one early access playthrough and 2 full launch playthroughs I can easily reccommend this game to anyone who is not just a fan of DnD, but a fan of RPGs and just games.

First off, the production value of this game is AAA level quality which is impressive especially for a studio like Larian. The game looks beautiful, characters are voiced very well and the fact they got celebrities like JK Simmons and Jason Issacs into this too. It does get pretty demanding, especially in Act 3 when the NPC numbers jump up massively tho, so be prepared for frame drops.

Gameplay wise this is easily one of the most impressive feats done. Not only did they translate the 5E mechanics so well but they added in enough liberties to ensure it translates better into video game format to the point some DnD content creators consider adding in the rule changes to their own campaigns to ensure combat run smoother. Whats more the devs really encapsulated the spirit of DnD with the amount of stuff possible in a campaign. My two campaigns even as good aligned playthroughs felt much different with the amount of stuff I missed the first time around and I found out stuff I never did in early access and my first time playing the game. It adds on to the replayability to an already long game that I still want to replay, this time as the Dark Urge and a typical evil playthrough, which will give me yet another massively different experience.

Also whats a DnD campaign without your party? The companions in this game are so well written and well voice acted too it feels like a shame you can only run around with 4 of them. Also even though I didn't play the original 2 games the companions Jaheria and Minsc feel so good to run around with too. The amount of development they get throughout the game feels natural as well as earned.

Again, I cannot recommend this game enough. Its everything I wanted in a DnD game in the day and age.
