Probably the most polished "old" survival/action horror game out there. Gameplay is simple, as you simple go around in different rooms shooting horrifying monsters, collecting basic supplies, and sometimes solving very easy "puzzles". There is even a button that draws a line to show you exactly where you're supposed to go if you get lost. This simplicity is definitely the game's weakest aspect, but it makes up for it with the gritty and immersive atmosphere and eerie sound design. This makes it very easy to get lost in the ambience of the game, while constantly being on your toes due to sound design letting you know necromorphs are nearby (or not). Combat can be really intense as the music ramps up and necromorphs can appear practically anywhere. Overally I recommend if you want to play a scary game and don't mind the simply gameplay loop/mechanics.

The PS1 style graphics, the atmosphere, and sound design are all really cool and immersive and give you that gritty silent hill vibe that you're probably looking for with a FPS twist. If that's all you want, it certainly excels in that at least aesthetically. However there are some glaring flaws in the combat. So far, the enemies I have encountered kinda just "phase" into me, so I don't actually see them attacking me, I simply receive damage. This is frustrating since I don't have any way of knowing that I'm not at a safe range until I'm hit (and the enemies have surprisingly massive range despite not having any visible limbs. This is combined with not really being able to tell how low my health is since all the game does is show that you're bleeding a little. The other annoyance is the flashlight. If you're in a cramped space, all you really see is in the small bright circle, meaning if you have to do something crazy like turn around, its very tricky since you can't really see around you. But if you can get around the janky combat and flashlight, it's a really cool game that will scratch the itch when you're in the mood for this genre.

So far I really like the art and how it really takes inspiration from "90s/PS1" era graphics but actually expands upon it and make it it's own style. The gameplay for the most part is pretty typical for survival horrors, and the perspective changes from top down to first person view is refreshing since the game can showcase different styles of art. Ammo can be scarce as well as inventory space, which makes you have to really think about if you should grab an item or not. While this is effective sometimes, if a save room is super far away it can just feel tedious since you have to backtrack all the way just to put an item away then go all the way back to get a single item. This is especially annoying since defense items still take up storage space even if they are equiped. Luckily there is a setting to have extended space if that bothers you. Movement is pretty smooth when you don't have a weapon equiped, but with a gun it feels a little clunky to turn and move around. This is probably on purpose, but the aiming system on control feels especially clunky and sometimes controller aiming it doesn't lock on or hit enemies when you're aiming directly at them which is frustrating. There are times in the game where an enemy is completely shrouded in darkness, which is fine because you can use the lock on aiming to find them. You move and look around purely with the left stick, then when you're in "aim mode" you move with the left stick and aim with the right. I wish it was always this way so you could aim your flashlight at enemies while moving away. But other than that I really enjoyed the music and sound design which are reminiscient of silent hill, and it has an intriguing story full of environmental storytelling to slowly build the world.

Awesome vibe, chill music, and mesmerizing graphics. So far its been awesome when I want to engage in a recreational activity with light JRPG elements. However, the platforming sections have some of the most frustrating gameplay I've ever experienced in my life. Other than that I recommend it.

Just defeated The End and most likely about to get to the infamous ladder. Most boss fights have been pretty straight-forward, but The End was a whole nother beast. So far it's been a great experience and in a lot of ways this game has aged amazingly. So many mechanics ahead of its time, though the system where you have to go into your menu to fix specific types of wounds is a bit tedious. Gameplay is pretty solid overall, but you have to get used to the whole hold R1 to aim and square to fire etc...but once you get it it's real good.

The game that set the standard for third person shooters...sorta. It still has tank controls like in RE1 and 2, but you can quickly change direction if you aim your gun then cancel it. Definitely takes some time to get used to. These tank controls also mean that if you get overwhelmed and need to turn, it is very awkward especially since you can't kick unless the enemy is staggered. Your knife is also not that great of a close quarters weapon because it doesn't stagger the enemy, so you will probably take damage for using it if it doesn't kill them. The dialogue is very much early-mid 2000s camp, which is dated but also a fun time if you don't take it too seriously. So far the enemies have been pretty much the same with little variety other than the weapons and models they use, but I guess I can't expect too much for a game from this time. Overall it's been a fun and campy action-horror game with some dated elements.

I've only played Halo 1 so far, but I gotta say the AI hold up extremely well! You can switch between the classic and remastered graphics on the fly which is pretty neat. Widescreen friendly :)

I played this after DS3, and I can appreciate the slower and more methodical combat over the faster-paced roll-heavy gameplay of 3. If you pay attention to your surroundings and take things slow, there are only really a few areas that should give you a lot of trouble the first time. People always praise the level design and connectedness of DS1 so you don't need me to tell you that, but it is a neat feature. The first half of the game is great in this regard, but the later levels feel incomplete or there seem to be missing enemies, items, things to discover etc. I don't mind the fast travel you get at a certain point since getting around would be an unnecessary pain without it. The world is also not as dark and drowned out as 3 which is something I quite liked, especially in regards to the armor sets. Most of the bosses are similar in the sense that they have telegraphed attacks which you either have to roll through or run away and whiff punish, or simply go behind them and stab them. They are fun and simple, but 2 of the DLC bosses as well as the final boss of the game are more in line with the fast-paced bosses of DS3. I enjoyed the fights, but I thought they felt a bit disjointed compared to the other bosses. Anyway tons of replay value and cool gameplay and design that rewards you for learning the level.

Pros:
-Amazing 90s inspired pixel art
-Voice acting is great and fits the 90s PC game aesthetic
-The atmosphere is easy to immerse yourself in
-Movement is very responsive and crispy clean for the most part (similar to Hollow Knight's)
-Some interesting movement options like quick ledge grabbing, canceling your dodge with jump, and slipping off ledge with dodge
Cons:
-You cannot attack directly below you with your quick normal attacks (WHY)
-Enemy placement can be very annoying, as sometimes you must kill every single fricking enemy if you don't wanna take too much damage while exploring. This makes backtracking a real pain sometimes. Of course some areas you can just jump over or dodge everyone, but due to their positioning sometimes you still have to respect them and slowly move forward instead of speeding pass them.
-Not every enemy is particularly interesting to battle. It can be a rinse and repeat of waiting for them to attack, hitting them once, backing away etc...

Overall, if you really like how the whole aesthetic of the game and like smooth controls, you'll probably be satisfied if you can get past the cons.
