It's honestly impressive how they somehow made the combat feel more dated than it's inspirations from the 90s. You can't switch enemies, which means if there are more than two enemies hopefully the game locks onto the right one you want to shoot LOL. Crowbar sucks because enemies armor through your attacks sometimes so its just kinda ass to use except for finishing off downed enemies. Camera changing perspectives is insanely annoying because you just can't see enemies and position to take them down, and they can shoot ranged attacks off screen. The camera is sometimes fixed camera, but sometimes it follows you. On their own they aren't a problem, but when combined it gets chaotic when in combat because it jumps around while you're fighting which can make you go the wrong way at times and get hit. At times you can't see enemies so you can't tell if you knocked them down to hit them with the crowbar to conserve ammo. The game is intricately detailed and has really great music and sound design, and I quite enjoy the puzzles so it really is a shame that they dropped the ball in arguably one of the more important aspects. Other than that its great if you can get it for $3!

I think they really knocked this one out of the park, at least for the first half. I thought the Ada section a gimmick boss fight and set pieces where you had no choice but to do the one solution the devs intended brought it down a bit. But exploring the police station was amazing, and I liked the other sections too. Sewer was just alright but not that bad. The lab was neat, but I wish they added more things to do and explore because it felt a bit shallow overall.

Methodical combat that rewards good decision-making like classic Dark Souls. Although unlike Dark Souls parrying is basically required just like Sekiro except the timing is a bit harder. Although I am a Souls veteran, I struggled immensely on the first somewhat challenging boss because it was pretty much a test of how well you could parry as simply whiff punishing between his attacks did very little damage. So parrying was the only way to get big damage by breaking his posture and riposting him. Once you master that, you've "gotten good" at LoP. There is also the rally system from Bloodborne, which just lets you regain most of the damage taken from blocking if you attack the opponent a few times after. The overall game has the same amount of polish as FromSoftware games, though it has a surprising amount of DNA from Code Vein in the sound and visual effects, and some mechanics like sliding down ladders and interacting with more things at your home base. So far I love it!

This is a tricky one to recommend. Decarnation is visually stunning, wears its inspirations on its sleeve, and has a pretty good opening story hook. So if that sells you already, I highly recommend it. But don't go in expecting an actual game, as most of the gameplay is walking around and clicking on things until things change, reading text, and doing very simple rhythm and timing minigames. Along with this are some puzzles to solve, some sequences where you have to run from an creature, and a boss fight towards the end, but those moments were few and far between. There are also some "gameplay" moments where you have to tap A or press a direction to perform an action, such as breathing or thinking, but these moments didn't exactly add a whole lot to the experience. I enjoyed the simplicity of the story and how it allowed for thorough exploration of Gloria's situation. The ending was a bit anticlimactic, and I think the villain should have gotten a bit more details in his backstory, but overall it was a decent experience. There are few tracks used, but I liked them all so it didn't detract anything. I'd say it was about a 6-7/10 for me.

I like the feeling of exploring a somewhat alive medieval fantasy world, but the core gameplay loop is pretty repetitive. Ride around on your horse, take on a quest or contract, then fulfill usually simple tasks like killing bandits, tracking down and hunting monsters, solving problems through basic dialogue, and occasionally being used as a messenger. It's pretty fun however and can be really addictive, but I found that Geralt wasn't really that interesting and the story was underwhelming, probably because I'm missing a lot of context from the books and other games. Overall I recommend if you're not expecting a game with the depth of like RDR2 and enjoy the setting.

It's been a neat little story so far, but despite all the dialogue options it gives you, none of them seem to change anything most of the time.

Slightly mixed feelings about this one, but leaning towards recommending it. At its best, the game is Silent Hill-lite with its own spin and intriguing story you have to piece together. However other times it seems like it would be better off as a movie or a cutscene since sometimes all you do is hold forward to progress, and since you have to constantly be clicking to move it can become a bit tiresome. The game has some neat visuals and atmosphere, and even has puzzles that you would expect in a Silent HIll-esque game, and the story is interesting enough to carry it for the most part. There are some gameplay mechanics where you have to perform certain actions to hide or escape from creatures, but ultimately they serve no real purpose other than sharing some lore. The first like three-quarters of the game are paced pretty well, as you collect notes, solve puzzles, and get past weird creatures. But after a certain point all semblence of gameplay or choice is removed and the game just ends up mashing the left mouse button as quickly as you can to progress the story, which is annoying since sometimes you are forced to walk very slowly. Since the game is very short, I would recommend you buy on sale at least.

Next best thing if you loved the slower-paced stamina management based combat of DS1. The atmosphere and gameplay here is still a banger.
