Definitely more "mass market" action gameplay than the old Dragon Age games, but it still has that Bioware "build your team and save the world" DNA.

Sadly another shiny example of how toxic some of the gaming audience has become, this deserved so much better than being the end of the franchise & the team that worked on it.

Great game although some VRAM issues on 8gb GPU's like the RTX 3070.

Does outstay its welcome a bit more than the original though, I found that one to have better environmental storytelling.

Every free-to-play game design choice in a "premium" package.

Disclosure: I ain't gonna pay for these in-app purchases lol (got this from the Humble Monthly), but since I own some NASDAQ:TTWO I won't mind if you do.

This is one of those "yes, but" reviews.

The "yes" being:
- Great turned-based RPG with a few meta jokes dropped in (reminded me of the South Park games in some ways), so if the beat-em-up genre of previous Yakuza games wasn't your thing, this could be a great entry point - it was for me.

The "but"s being:
- Obligatory Chapter 6 dungeon is way too long and the cause of your first "battle fatigue" in the game.
- Chapter 12 requires a grind of an "optional" battle arena.
- Set aside at least 2 hours starting from the point of no return in Chapter 15 as there's no save points until you finish the game.
- To upgrade your gear you probably need to grind some mini-games for cash and materials.

Not taking into account graphics (which would be unfair), this is worse in every way than the previous gen games in the series.

Stiff controls, broken audio, bad physics,... It just feels bad to play.

Volition deserved a better swan song.

+ It's a great game.

- Broken controller support requires you to add the EA app as non-Steam game.
- Framerate is all over the place, from 100+ FPS to very instable sub 40 and shader compilation stutter.
- Crashes 90% of the time during start-up, prepare to see EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION a LOT.

~ After reading this article: https://www.pcgamer.com/there-are-increased-reports-of-crashing-in-unreal-engine-games-etc-and-epic-is-blaming-intel-chips/ I disabled the XMP profile in my BIOS. Lo and behold: no more crashes. This game (together Hogwarts Legacy, both Unreal Engine 4 titles) are broken when not running stock bios settings.

I tried, I really did.

During the first playthrough I quit in chapter 6. Corridor after corridor, reskins of the same monsters. No variation at all, story and combat lackluster at best.

After playing FFVII Remake, and with the latest gossip of "FFXIII wasn't as bad as people remember" going around, taking into account the fact that it spawned 2 sequels, and reading threads & articles about how it "opens up at chapter 11", I reinstalled and started from scratch.

Again, around chapter 6 the repetitiveness was getting to me, but I thought I'd see it through to chapter 11.

Today, I reached chapter 11 and did 2 side missions.
Yes, it opens up, but it does NOT change the game.

And so this time, I quit in chapter 11.

Highly recommended for the story, concept, and experience.

Combat does get stale towards the end though.

It's a game where you play as Spider-man with great production values.
Ray tracing makes a huge difference in terms of visual quality and is highly recommended.

Extremely enjoyable first 80%, but horribly aggressive, 100% accuracy, 1km range, snipers which break the open world traversal in the last few hours.
