The Good:
New Engine: Improved Graphics
Creative Assembly released one free and one temporarilly free DLC packs.
Creative Assembly is patching the game and currently on its 9th patch post-release.

The Bad:
The free DLC contained units and factions that were planned upon but cut to make time for release.
The game was released in an unplayable alpha.
Unoptimized Engine: Framerate horror on my i7-4770K rig with nVidia GTX 760 and 8GB Ram, even at medium settings.
Creative Assembly charges for basic DLC (Blood + Gore).
Creative Assembly lies about Beasts of War DLC "new units" that were seen in alpha.
Creative Assembly then covers up the lie by calling it a "marketing error."

I've been with CA since the first Rome. Never have they botched something up on this massive of a scale.
All they see now from gamers is dollar signs.

Avoid like the plague until this game is sold at true value: $9.99.

Starbound boasts a beautiful soundtrack, engaging NPC's, and a real, bonified plot.

In a game genre that thrives on exploration and customizability, Starbound breaks the mold. All of its planets, weapons, and world are procedurally generated. What does "procedurally generated," mean? It means that every playthrough is unique, since everything is generated fresh and new. The backdrops are gorgeous, and the mining and ore-scavenging is very rewarding.

One planet may have a torture dungeon with gruesome experiments gone awry, another planet may have bustling settlements filled with traders vying for your pixels (the in-game currency). Yet another may have large monsters with their own agendas and ways to make you into a meal.

There are little gems that can be found by interacting with your environment and other citizens of the universe. One I like is an Avian whom will tell you, "We're up all night to get plucky." The game is filled with other pop-culture gems, and a good dose of humor. Starbound is still being worked on and polished, so if you buy now, expect crashes and bugs. Good thing the publisher, Chucklefish, enjoys working with its customers to help make a good game.

In the dead of space, the only thing you can count on is your ship and a little bit of luck.

In short, if you enjoy games like Terraria or Minecaft, this game is for you!

I was very dubious when I first heard of Terraria, even to the point of dismissing it as a 2d clone of Minecraft. While there are similarities, Terraria is far more combat focused, giving you a plethora of weaponry at your disposal. Minecraft only offers a sword and bow as weapons. Terraria has flails, great-swords, handguns, rifles, and lightsabers!
The world generation is truly random and can be quite the pull for those that love sandbox adventures. The colors and design of the various crafts and blocks make for nearly infinite designs, and you can even rig traps for monsters!
The way that Terraria excels is not only in its 2D take, but the sheer amount of WORLD there is. Sure, minecraft has an infinite map, but all the biomes feel like slight variations on each other. Terraria has distinct folliage, enemies, materials, and blocks within every level of itself.
Right now, its less than $3! Totally a steal!

I wrote a review for this back when it was stil in Alpha. Boy, has it EXPLODED! Two notable differences between E.S. and other games of the genre are the simple grace encorporated by the UI, and the astronomical accuracy and beauty of the galaxies in which you play. You can customize the weapons, shielding, and other aspects of every ship, unlocking new specialized hulls through research.
Since the Alpha, they've added numerous tweaks and huge immersion details such as ancient "Wonders," huge, magnificent structures that you can marvel at and eventually harness. The difficulty has been ratcheted up a notch in places, and the balance is even better!
In short, this is a gorgeously realized world, set with a stunning background (both artistically and chronologically), and is worth every dime I payed for it!
If you enjoyed Galactic Civilizations, you will love Endless Space!
I purchased this on a whim but every time I sit down to play, I find at least 6 hours of my life suddenly missing. A fun and sleek game that is a great introduction to the Space 4X genre!

FTL isn't everyone's game. You lose far more often than you win. I've played it for around 12 hours so far, and still haven't beaten it.
But therein lies the devious appeal of this game!
As one of the last ships loyal to the Federation, you carry information vital to overthrowing the Rebels who have taken over the galactic scene. You must weave an intricate dance to keep them off your tail, while trying to earn enough scrap to upgrade your ship. In the end, there is only one way out.
When your engines are on fire, your shield system is disabled, and the nefarious alien boarders have you cornered in your own med bay, you will find yourself cursing that you didn't upgrade your blast doors instead of purchasing that Hull Laser. In the very next scene, after you somehow make the jump with the last surviving crew member, what do you find? A random weapon floating in space!
This game is as addicting as it is sadistically merciless, and will keep you begging for just one more bloody turn!

Building upon the cult following that made Starsiege: Tribes and Tribes 2 recognizible before it, Tribes Ascend takes a radical jump away from its predecessors in that it offers a myriad of options for everyone. With a slicked UI and better graphics than ever, you'll find the right weapon for your playstyle. If you like to run and gun, there's a class for you. If you want to methodicaly pick off your enemies at a distance, try the sniper class. If you want a balance of playability and firepower, try the Soldier. Like previous Tribes games, to longer too long in one spot is to invite death.
Oh, and its free to download and free to play.
You can't rally beat that can you?
