We've waited 10 years, they came out with an OK generic action RPG with Dragon Age set dressing. I can say I only enjoyed it similarly to a toddler enjoying something new and shiny. But for long time Dragon Age fans and as part of the series, this ain't it chief.

The combat is a step up from previous installments but has been summarized into a hack and slash. While engaging and fun for a short amount of time, became boring and repetitive. Especially when we now take only 2 companions instead of 3 and they do very little damage. And there's very limited enemy types and abilities being reduced to only 3 compared to DAI's 8. I lowered the difficulty to the easiest because combat felt like a chore. I don't play Dragon Age for the combat, I play it for the RPG elements. Which sadly, there aren't many.

Gone are the moral choices and lore altering consequences. The story is linear, no paths, no variations, the dialogue choices are essentially the same. The decisions you make in game are so minor that you will always have the same outcome. It all boils down to the writing. It's terrible. The world, although very beautiful, feels empty. Previous Dragon Age installments are known for its in depth and complex story aspects. In Veilguard, it ignores established lore, in favor of superficial instead of substantial.

The relationship with companions and the romance has always been a major highlight for the series. Unfortunately in this, they are lackluster and lifeless. Hardly any compelling dynamics between Rook and the team. There was scarcely any friction between the companions; if there was, it was introduced and immediately resolved in the same conversation. it feels shallow that no matter what everyone seemed to get along together. It was very hard for me to form significant attachment to the cast (except emmerich, my love). There is no opportunity to explore in any depth about their personal history, their opinions or advice on the situation, learn about their hobbies/interests, etc. Which further disappoints me when they had marketed DAV to be centered around companions.

There's so much more that is tragically disappointing about this game. While I did enjoy my time with it, I can't say I would recommend it to hardcore fans of Dragon Age. Honestly, it leaves me with little hope for future entries in the series.

i keep coming back to this pos franchise like an abusive ex. been a long time cod player, favs are cod4 and mw2. i came back hoping it would scratch the longing itch for an fast paced arcade shooter like the old days but it has me leaving with the biggest bluest balls every single time. campaign is probably the only good thing tbh

update: the game crashes almost every game whenever i play multiplayer
