I wanted to like this game... but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ there's too much wrong with it. Which is an absolute shame because in all sincerity, the story is fascinating. If the game didn't have combat at all, it might have been great. The terrible combat system and ridiculous hit detection just killed this experience for me. Enemies will unnaturally slide and twirl to justify hitting you at any angle/distance, making it feel like your ability to dodge isn't real. Closest I can sum it up to is that the game is doing D&D style dice rolling to determine if the enemy will hit you or not regardless of your state or distance. Auto-Lock is a joke... I had a fight with 1 guy on the ground and 2 guys on a balcony shooting down at me... Auto-Lock decided that my immediate threat was not a concern and kept forcing my camera to look up at the guys at the balcony.

I think the most egregious thing this game does is having no real save function. No auto-saving, no manual saves. Yes, the game PRETENDS to auto-save... but really it's a state save. When you die, you don't get the items you had at some check point. You don't get a chance to redo choices after an auto-save... you just pop out of a hole and reform. All your items gone, all your blood gone. They pretend to make the merciful decision of putting you before a boss should you feel the need to run back and stock up... but that trek can take an incredible amount of time and make it feel like it's not worth it. Why... in a game where there are so many morality choices to make, when you make bosses that can kill you in a couple hits even with health upgrades, would you not make a proper save system?

I would be able to overlook a lot of things with this game if they implemented a proper save system, but I can't. It's such a shame too... It has a great story. The graphics are fine, not mindblowing but definitely works for the setting they want to achieve. Music and sound sets a wonderfully dark tone... It's just the combat and lack of saving completely kill any enjoyment I would have had with this game. Watch someone else play this game if you must see the story or play in Story Mode to avoid most of the hair pulling frustration this game has to offer.
