Don't listen to those who wished for pre 2.0 patch. They are folks who don't know what they are talking about because the ONLY and PROPER way of playing Stellaris is having the whole Galaxy used Hyperlane, which what patch 2.0 officially provided and therefore makes the gameplay flow shaped to follow it.

Why do you ask, using hyperlane is the only proper way of playing Stellaris? Because like what Paradox said in their patch change: it creates "geography" in which the shape of your territory matters. Before when warp and wormhole is a thing, those two FTL method basically renders your territory as shapeless. There is no interesting dynamic to be had. Every star system is the same except when they contained strategic resources. Fortress are useless unless they are built in your home or vital systems. In short, warp and wormhole makes the game sh*t as it doesn't offers you any meaningful feedback if you are going to roleplay as "space nation". They are FTL travel method that is best suited for other type of games.

Do I have to mention how bad it was chasing around enemy fleet with those two FTL method?

The pre-2.0 offers diversity that is as deep as puddle. I prefer the 2.0 where the game gives your starting 'homogenity' but with extra depth later on as the game progress. Even this homogenity is a stretch considering that, with a vast option at the start it allows you to take experiment and take certain route. Like for example, a friend of mine who decided not to use energy weapon at all.
