Early Access Review
Fun early access game if you look past two major issues for me, Game loves to crash on you whether it be when you're moving zones or in the trial of chaos. Uxmal is a broken and unfun boss fight that should be removed entirely or reworked from the ground up. Game has a lot of work to be done, but at the same time a lot of potential. Would recommend if these two issues get fixed and the game gets more variety with classes.

Fun game till you get to the end and it's a constant boss gauntlet. They don't give you a chance to heal in between the at least 3 bosses you fight and the mechanics of the bosses stop being fun quickly as well. Game really drives home the point of not wanting you to beat it unless you have everything unlocked.

Edit: While I still agree with what I wrote above even if I wrote it out of frustration, there are some more aspects of this game that I didn't enjoy and want to point out as someone who plays a lot of these types of games.

TL;DR- Game does good job being mega man, game does not do a good job being replayable with last level being big grind

First, the game does feel like a mega man game and when I first started playing it was great. I enjoy the movements and I like the rougelite elements mixed with mega man gameplay. That's it for the good things for me.

The game tells you things by giving you a wall of text (just like I'm about to) for you to read through and hopefully understand. Best way to figure things out is to just try and hope nothing goes wrong. In my time I've played Ace and Nina. Ace feels awful to play since he's a melee character. I never had a real run going with him cause no matter how hard I was trying, I was constantly taking damage when I went in for attacks. Nina felt actually playable and she was the one I mained during my time since she had ranged attacks. As others have pointed out, some areas feel almost impossible to pass without taking damage. I noticed that the further you get in the game, the more enemies are just thrown around everywhere. This is how they increase the difficulty in long runs, by pasting enemies at every inch that make you either slow down to deal with them or just run through them taking damage here and there and getting by with invincibility frames. They also just start giving the bosses and mini-bosses a large health pool that gets boring dealing with after a few minutes. Which leads back into my original post so game spoilers ahead. While I never beat the game, probably never will as it doesn't feel worth it for me, what I suspect is the last level is just a big grind. It's small enemies everywhere up till you get to the bosses and then it's at least 3 bosses in a row with one chance to heal between the first and second boss. The second boss is two characters with one being constantly revived during the fight. Then the third is just the same boss as one of the ones you just fought, but powered up. It wasn't fun for me. It didn't feel cool to keep fighting the same bosses over and over again. It wasn't rewarding in anyway. The game breaks it's formula to keep you surprised, but it just doesn't feel exciting. I got to the point of just wanting it to end and unfortunately it did by me losing even though I felt like I had a overpowered build. The enemies health pools were just too big and trying to learn their attacks got me. It really feels like they want you to have your character almost maxed out first before you can beat the game. They don't give you a real fair shot at it unless you have the health, nrg, and lives maxed out. Which happens in these types of games, but I do not feel like making that journey to the end again knowing how long and grindy it is which defeats the purpose of these types of games. This game should be replayable even if you beat the boss, not a grindfest for a single level. If I could refund this game, I would as I don't see myself investing much or any more time into it which is disappointing as this game was on my wishlist for quite some time, but it didn't hit that mark for me. Too many issues that hide behind the disguise of a rougelite that prevent this game from being good.

Overall, I actually liked the game. My issues lie in some boss mechanics just plainly being unfun. You spend 10+ minutes just running in circles getting in two attacks before running back in a circle. Most bosses only have 2-3 attacks so it just becomes a redundant battle. Also the game is geared to having a server as there are timed events. This includes making materials needed for higher level gear. Not really a complaint, but something to note if you plan on playing this solo on a local save.

Edit: After playing more, I've realized the last 25% of this game is a crazy grind for better gear. Grinding materials to get new blueprints, then grinding materials to make new equipment, then grinding materials to upgrade that equipment. Then you have servants, but you have to equipment them in order for them to auto loot in higher level areas. Guess what you'll be doing to equipment these servant. Grinding materials. Some people are into that and that's cool. Definitely not for me, when I got through 75% of this game without needing to do much of it.

It's a fun game for the most part, but there are some points where they really try to make it "unfair" on purpose and it just feels rough to play. Enemies will spam attacks over and over again. They'll have a delay that's just short enough that it feels safe to attack, but isn't. This happens constantly and leaves a bad taste in my mouth when after dodging and blocking for what feels like forever you think you have an opportunity just for them to keep spamming more moves. Unlike in Souls games where you could just move to a different area, this game is pretty linear so you have no other option, but to keep facing the same enemy over and over again. Which isn't a bad thing as it forces you to learn, but can be aggravating.
